G31 Failed Aircon Compressor

Hi all,

I have a late 2017 530d and BMW last week advised me that the air conditioning compressor had failed. Not because of damage from a stone but simply that it needed replacing following 'checking of resistance across coil 10,000,000 ohms and carrying out ABL check of magnetic clutch which had power going to it but wasn't working'.

The warranty expired under a year ago and now they want £1,700 to replace the faulty unit. A couple of independent BMW specialist mechanics have suggested that I should contest this cost with BMW directly as this unit should not fail in the first 10 years, let alone 3.5 years!

Anyone else seen this issue? Do you think I have a case with BMW on accepting some or all of the cost for the failed compressor?

Thank you!
