Alternative to the Michelin 20" Summer Softies?

First, I love Michelins for any tire need for any car. That said, we all know how quickly summer tires wear out. My Michelin summer Super Sports (non-RFT) are a few weeks old and they ride like a dream. That said, since I will most likely will be replacing them at a rate of 2X vs. all seasons, I was wondering if anyone has tried any of the cheaper brands on Tire Rack or the like?

Such as Kumho, Toyo, Falken, etc:

Look at it this way, the tire you choose is your only connection between your nearly 4K lb. car and the road. How much value do you put on safety, ride quality, performance of your BMW, etc?

If you're still willing to experiment, first thing is you'll need is to lower your expectations. Most "performance" tires suffer from wet/dry performance issues of some kind. Unless you go all season, or for a more touring type of tire, most will wear the same or more quickly. Most are noisier than your PSS, and pretty much all of them will be much noisier as they age. Some are a nightmare to get balanced due to the OEMs lower quality control standards.

Understood, I was just pinging the audience to see if there was actually a diamond in the rough. I would not trade the summer high performance ride and quality for any all season though. My car doesn't see rain, winter or cold temps. So nothing to worry about there. Yes, I realized a long time ago with my E38 and all my E65's that the only thing that removed that steering wheel shimmy after lot's of money spent on bushings and control arms were Michelins. Again, just seeing if there was something, relatively speaking from a price/performance perspective these days that could be "close enough" to Michelins.

I used Falkens on a 98 Pontiac Trans Am that I once had as well as 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP and had good luck with them. I can't say how they are on the BMW, but from my past experience they were a sold tire.

While I use the Michelin PS4s myself I have heard a lot of good things about hankook ventus s1 evo2 tyres which are much cheaper and a lot of reviewers are now claiming hankook are no longer mid performance tyres ... but high end.
