After a year, this creak from door is still giving me a headache
Hi,
I have discovered this "squeaky rattle" in the driver's door a while ago, and have tried using gummifledge (sp) all around the rubber in the door seals, but this creak still remains. It also seems to come and go, and is worst during the summer. I have already taken it to the dealer but they weren't able to solve it. Weirdly, this noise only happens if the windows are closed. What do you all think this noise is coming from? In the attached video you can hear the squeak when running over manholes: HTML Code:

Known issue, a good dealer will remove the door card and add insulation under warranty. Mine did.

If you lower the window by just a few millimetres you think the issue goes away?
If so that was exactly the same symptoms with the rubber seals against the bodywork which for me (and others) gummifledge would fix That should last a very long time Is there anything on the body where the rubber seals meet such as polish or wax or silicon? If it's the same issue it's simply the body flexing and the rubber seals sticking to the metal and moving as the body flexes. Lowering the window removes the pressure on the rubber seal which is why it goes away Difficult to tell from your video Only thing I can suggest is to make sure the metal work has nothing on it as previously mentioned. Frustrating I know as the car is so quiet you notice the slightest noise |

I had this for ages, and it drove me mad, I used gummifledge which makes it worse!
my dealership replaced all sorts and it didn’t fix it. They replaced window runners, the black shadow trim on the outside, door card etc. In my frustration, I tried another dealership and they just cleaned the seals with BMW silicone remover part number 82162413632 £8 a bottle. I was furious when speaking to the service advisor on collection when they said, all they did was clean the door seals, I was 100000000% sure it wouldn’t work… but by heck it worked a treat, weird as it’s only ever from passager door and I’ve to clean it again every 6 months or it comes back, but it’s only a 2 min job. Honesty this is what you need ! Afterwards I searched online and there is another individual who had the same issue and same cure. |

Thanks for the advice! I understand your frustration. Will try this for sure. Where can I purchase this silicone remover?

Ya, even if the window is only lowered millimeters the noise goes away. I previously put gumifledge on rubber seals where they meet the rubber on the car frame. Will put it also on the rubber seals in which it meets the bodywork. |

Gumifledge goes on the door seals, not the window seals. BMW says to keep the painted surfaces of the door openings free of wax and silicones, but over 20 years of ownership, I have not found any appreciable difference whether I keep them cleaned (using 3m Automotive Adhesive Remover, or denature alcohol) or applying a paint sealant or ceramic spray. In fact I would say the best solution is gumifledge on the door seals and ceramic spray on the painted surfaces. The whole point is to keep the seals sliding on the painted surfaces, rather than grabbing, which causes the noise. That is why many of the door and window seals have felt, to prevent the rubber from grabbing.

This whole problem started with the E39, and the solution that I did for my M5 back then was to cover the entire door opening with felt. It looked horrible, but solved the issue.
