2017 540i CPO'd in 2019 at 9000 or so miles, at 54,000 miles currently
1. 21,000 Air mixer broke so hot air only - fixed under warranty 2. 34,000 upper and lower grill shutters stuck - replaced under warranty 3. 42,000 Have had to add coolant periodically, expansion tank replaced, no more leaks or added coolant since 4. 47,000 leaking diff seal - replaced under CPO 5. Vibrating while braking, likely front rotors warped, will likely replace soon with pads. Much more reliable than the 2010 335d with horrible emission system I have the B&W system too, why are so many getting their speakers replaced?

One more to add for my 2018 540i:
40,300 miles - finally got final resolution and replacement on my sticking steering column. Replaced under warranty.

2018 520d - 43000 miles
Had a coolant leak which turned out to be the EGR cooler which ultimately lead to burning a hole in the intake manifold on the 3rd lane of the M1 resulting in a full engine replacement. My car wasn’t listed under the recall and despite it being a well known problem BMW spent several weeks deliberating if they would pay for it as “good will”, which they did but charged me £90 to put oil in the new engine because that wasn’t covered. |

1. ~18 months in: Upper and Lower flaps replaced (warranty) 2. ~36 months in: Upper and Lower flaps replaced (warranty) 3. ~42 months in: Turbo Coolant lines replaced (due to leaking coolant - and these were supposedly replaced under recall a few months after I bought the car; anyway covered by warranty). 4. ~49 months in: Passenger seat mat replaced (yep, decided to bite it right after warranty expired - on the plus side, I did get 75% goodwill coverage from BMW, so "only" about $500 out of pocket) 5. ~49 months in: Headlight switch replaced (covered by extended warranty) 6. ~60 months in: Current issues: - Car has been feeling like it's been missing when under load. My mechanic's certification from Google seems to be pointing to the HPFP going. The car finally lit the MIL over the weekend, and the code was for the second O2 sensor readings being off. Emissions testing the previous weekend passed, though. - Yesterday, A/C went out. + I have an appointment to drop the car off this Thursday for these 2 issues...we'll see how bad this hurts in a few days.

Good question...I probably should have mentioned: about 57k miles

My current plan was to keep the car for about 3-4 more years, then get something cheaper for a little while (as I'd be putting a 16-year old on car insurance!) If this stuff keeps up, it may be cheaper to start that plan early :-( I'll miss the getupandgo, though. 99% of the time it brings a smile to my face - the only time it didn't was when it got me a speeding ticket a few months ago, but that's another story :-)

- hesitation between 2k-4k RPM - MIL for 2nd O2 Sensor I'll found out Thursday or Friday from the dealership what their diagnosis is, and if anyone's interested, I'll update here with the findings and cost.

So, latest update on my current saga: I go to pick my daughter up from school, and her being her, she doesn't make it out to carpool, so I pull up to the parking lot to wait. When she finally shows up, I unlock the car to let her in and "Drivetrain Malfunction" pops up. Now I can't even start the car (won't turn over - car refuses to try). So, I call my wife to come pick my daughter up, call my Wangjanim (TKD school owner) to tell him I won't make it to teach classes, then call a tow truck. $290 later, and the car is now sitting at the dealer, and probably won't be touched until Thursday or Friday as they are backed up. On the plus side, I currently have my wife's uncle's 4-series GC. When she told them my car crapped out, they offered to let me borrow one of their cars. I'd set up a rental with Enterprise, as I knew I'd be down for at least a few days spanning the weekend, and the loaner waitlist at the dealer is like 3-4 weeks. So, after the tow, being able to borrow someone's car has saved me the $400 I was planning on paying for the rental...which basically just went to the tow truck. Oh well. And like my wife's uncle said - the real diagnosis is that I'm out of the factory warranty :-) Have a good weekend, y'all, and thanks for letting me vent - this afternoon was rough. I'll update you on the diagnosis when I get it.

In reality they didn’t have a leg to stand on, Sandal accepted straight away that the issue was caused by the EGR fault as covered by the recall on that engine. The fact my chassis number wasn’t covered under the recall just gave them a window to declare it “goodwill” which meant they didn’t have to warranty the work. |

Anyway, the list of parts they want to change are (not counting A/C issue): - O2 sensor (b/c of code thrown by car) - Integrated Supply Module (they said it was bad) - Battery ("could be the cause of other issues") On the plus side, the O2 sensor and Integrated Supply Module are covered by my extended warranty (which means most/all of my diag costs should be covered, too!) Now, that said, I get a text from my SA yesterday stating that the tech found a "melted component". He wouldn't elaborate on what the "component" was; he just said that the tech would send me a video today (which I haven't received). SA asked if I'd ever gotten a jump. Just answered (truthfully) that I've never given or received a jump with this car. If I get any more information on what component melted, I'll be sure to share. Right now, just asking for some good vibes in hopes I get my car back.

I stopped by the dealership yesterday since I hadn't heard anything from my SA (yeah, I was going to be "that customer"...but I was on my best behavior, honest!) to inquire about the latest status. He and the tech walked me out to the car to show me where they are. One of the connectors that connect a wiring harness to the Integrated Supply Module had partially melted. It looks like a massive amount of current went through one pin (it was a small part of the connector that was melted, but still enough to fuse the connector with the module). It was getting close to sunset, and the part is a little awkward to get to so I didn't get a pic to share - sorry. They said that they were able to order just the connector (as replacing the whole wiring harness would require dropping the engine!), but it's on a slow boat from Germany with a current ETA of 3 weeks. On the plus side, the tech said that he felt confident that the electrical issues that caused this could have contributed to the hesitation during acceleration I was getting. Now it's just a waiting game.
