It’d come down to the features for me. A well equipped 840 would be preferable to a stripped 540 and vice versa. I find the 8 gorgeous but as said earlier, I eliminated it due to lack of massaging seats. It has power rear window sunshades and heated armrests over the 5 though. Goodness knows what BMW’s rationale for this is.

The days when my back is semi tweaked, heated seat on max and lumbar massage L3 is otherworldly. Otherwise the massage is on the weaker side although on long drives the lower body activation does help with fatigue.
Shopping around for the last few weeks, it's crazy how few people paid for Bowers and Wilkins and a bit disappointing how few people optioned for the Cooling/Tire "M Tech package". A little spoiled with my 5 having literally every option but night vision and rear heated seats I suppose, but damn no one really opted to get these things loaded. |

Not sure what the used market is like atm, but for their new prices, I’d take an m5 over an m850 without question. Way easier to find them heavily optioned and they come with more stuff standard.
