I do want the button and I can't find anything on how this installs. I'm guessing you need a new steering column cover.
The BMW install instructions call for the dealer to drill the existing cover if I remember correctly.

I will see if I can find them later. Wiring is also run (as expected) from the button to the grill and it is connected to the BDC if I remember well.

Ahh, thank you, appreciate this and the forthcoming instructions if you find them.

Wow, the dealer has to drill a hole huh? So not like BMW, I would have bet the house they would have made and had you buy a new column cover with the cutout already there.

Overall, sounds invasive, losing interest. I would pay my indie to do it if they even would. Approaching a $1,000 job if you want the button and I would.

Hahah, but my rule of thumb, as long as BMW makes it and it is OEM, it is in the conversation.

My memory was correct, yes, they drill a hole there.

Jeesh, I made a joke earlier in this post about using a large round diameter bit like the ones you would use to drill a deadlock or doorknob hole in a door. Little did I know.

Thanks for this. This project ain't gonna happen.

It’s been some time since I posted this thread. I missed the post of the installation manual, thank you!!

I have determined that the button does not seem to do anything. It definitely does not turn the grill lighting on at night while driving.

I popped the button out just to be sure it’s actually connected to a harness (it is) and I turned it right-side-up before popping it back in.

Maybe with the instructions I can trace the installation and see why it’s not working.

Like the self-parking feature I paid $700 to have when I ordered the car? Used it less than 5 times in 5 years but it’s a cool party trick. You guys need this feature so that I can take less grief for the iconic glow grill on the G60 when I eventually move on to it in a year or so.

To be fair, you need to order the package with self parking to get the surround view camera system. That’s a great feature even if you don’t use the parking feature.

When I lived in Philly. The parking feature worked very well in a very challenging environment. Most of America lives in boring suburbs though where parallel parking isn’t a real problem. The little they do get is in massive pre painted spaces lol

I don’t have a problem parallel parking. But spent a great deal of time testing the feature so my wife could be comfortable using it. It is really well implemented feature. The only “complaint” is it can be a little slow compared to a human.

For instance, you can start manually parallel parking and go “I didn’t line up right” and let it take over and finish the job. Or you can let it start then finish yourself. It is pretty cool.

Love surround view. A must-have for any future car. Our '22 X3 doesn't have it, only rear camera, and I never know if I'm in the center of the parking spot like with my G30 w/surround view.
