Slogged through The Meg last night with Statham, it's honestly the first movie I've ever seen with him where I had to fast forward. Had it's moments (all Statham related of course) but terrible acting (the Asian actors in the movie were some of the worst I've ever seen) and an entirely predictable plot line made it a snooze fest. Looking forward to Hobbs and Shaw though!

If you saw the animated Lion King you have no reason to pay again

And that was after 3 martinis

I did rock to the music though

Will get the Blu Ray of course. Tarantino is either absolutely love all time classic for me, or absolute trash and I hate it. There's no middle ground in his movies for me!

Had every intention of watching it Saturday night but didn't feel well.

The eldest boy saw it Friday night and said it was "nothing short of fantastic."

I wouldn't say that any actor in any of his films have great roles, nonetheless it's story and how he tells it that keeps his fans coming back for more. The fact that he gets great actors to play mediocre characters in great stories it what always gets me.

I always enjoy listening to him talk....how he speaks and how he tells stories himself, are basically how his movies flow.....or untangle....and the dialogue is always fantastic.

Finally got the wife to watch Reservoir Dogs last weekend. She's lived a sheltered life...so I 'm introducing her to all the ones I loved growing up.

Thought she was going to bail on me in the scene with Mr. Blonde and the Stealer's Wheel song, but she hung in there. The next day at the gym while we were on the treadmills together...she gave me one of her earbuds and had actually downloaded and was playing "Stuck in the middle with you".

Well done! I introduced the ex-wife (the 2nd one) to this film and she had a hard time with that scene as well. Anytime that I hear that song, my mind instantly starts playing cut scenes.

Same situation with the girlfriend, she hasn't seen pretty much any movie ever. I've created a long list of movies she needs to watch. Reservoir Dogs is right near the top, along with some other Tarantino movies.

We saw it this weekend too and I completely agree with you. The last 30 minutes were pretty great though, but it doesn't come close to the Hateful 8 for my top favorite QT movie. I enjoyed it though, and am looking forward to seeing it a second time, his movies always seem better the 2 and the 3rd time I've watched them.

Got to include Guy Ritchie in there as well. She has actually enjoyed those!

I'll agree with most of his films. Rock n Rolla & Mean Machine (The brits equivalent to The Longest Yard; football to soccer) are both a hard pass for me. The Man from U.N.C.L.E. is a great watch! I haven't seen Aladdin and to be honest I can't believe he directed a Disney film. Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels is still one of my all time favorite movies. The dialogue from this film is fantastic! So many great one-liners from that from that movie.

The opening bit from Statham still makes me smile:

"Squeeze in if you can. Left leg, right leg, your body will follow. They call it walking. You want one as well, darling? You do? That's it, they're waking up! Treat the wife. Treat somebody else's wife. It's a lot more fun if you don't get caught. Hold on. You want one as well? Okay, darling, show me a bit of life, then. It's no good standing out there like one o'clock half-struck. Buy them, you better buy them. These are not stolen, they just haven't been paid for, and we can't get them again, they've changed the bloody locks. Here, one for you. It's no good coming back later when I've sold out. "Too late, too late" will be the cry when the man with the bargains has passed you by. If you got no money on you now, you'll be crying tears as big as October cabbages."

Brilliant. Like it more each time.
Cinemaphotography is amazing. So many scenes with focus on one colour. Beautiful.

Whiplash - 8.5/10 (Prime)

Truly excellent. In many ways it was similar to Capote - the main character had to make sacrifices in order to achieve a creative peak. And both the protagonist and antagonist in this movie were both turds, but to me, the movie did a better job at explaining and redeeming them.

Interesting.....you are the only other person I know that has seen Capote. Phillip Seymour Hoffman's range, as an actor, was truly something.

I'll check out this Whiplash you speak of.
