Great for a handheld shot. I wonder how sharp that 500mm & TC would be when tripod mounted?

1/80 for 1000mm is indeed astounding. That is some impressive IS capability. How much of a crop is that?

It's around 70%. Says something about file quality also.

I hated sending the Series II 500mm back, but it was killing me to send the 1D X back. It's performance with long lens and TCs just blew my 5D3 into the weeds.

I feel your pain. That's why it's best that I keep such devices out of my hands...too much temptation for sure!

Left Portland last night at 6, got home at 3 this morning. I am not 20 anymore.

Shot from the trip up. This is Black Butte mountain, a lava cone created by the nearby Mt. Shasta's volcanic activity. This is no kidding, feet from the interstate and a landmark as you drive north on I-5 toward Oregon.

Wish I had a tripod with me and had stopped down some.
