Looks like a mild refresh of the current car. Calling this thing beautiful, excellent design, unbelievable, WOW, is just too much. Seriously. Look at it. So predictable and boring. No imagination or pushing the envelope in design, nothing inspiring. BMW, PLEASE get another design team. Your cars are ugly and boring now.

While we all have our different opinions, I thought the F10 looked too bloated and boring, and it kept me in my 08 550i. The G30 looks PERFECT to me, and fixes everything I didn't like about the F10.

The headlights look great to me - classy, but complex like the backside of a high end watch.

The taillights fix what I didn't like about the F10 - it felt like they drew in lines just to have lines, while the G30's lights look sleek and complicated - though I'm not sold on the blinkers being so humongous.

All in all, I'm in love. I'll test drive the 540ix as soon as it's in the showroom, and if it passes there, then I'll be one of the first in line for the M550i.

Thanks for all the work you put into the renderings over the last couple months, by the way. Now get to work on the M5!

Just different markets. For the kind of people that will actually be buying this thing, it's perfect. It doesn't need to blow your face up, it needs to look strong, athletic, and expensive, while still being now-key enough to match a businessey vibe.

It's a car primarily for business-suit wearing types who want to enjoy their drive, not for rapper types, and the design follows. That being said, the aftermarket, and BMW M Performance, will surely offer ways to make it suit anybody's taste - but remember that the F10 sold 2+ million copies BECAUSE of it's understated nature, not DESPITE it.

Why's that? The M550i is a twin turbo V8, and the M5 will be as well...

Not as good looking as the F10, but that's a hard act to follow. It still looks greats. Too bad it won't cost e with manual transmission.

This vehicle is gorgeous! None of the leaked photos or renders did it any justice. From the M550 down to the 520d, with or without M Sport, they all look great. I wouldn't say that about any other vehicle in current line up except the 230/240/m2.

Ugh, now I'm considering this as my next car.

They're saying that "sport" is now standard. The only difference I've seen from the silver one in the first set of pictures versus the "m sport" package picture on the m550i is that it has chrome where the shadow line trim is on the m550i and the m550i loses the fog lamps in the front, adds "quad tipped" exhaust and of course wheels, brakes, etc.

Edit: the silver one has an m badge... dammit! Thought I had it figured out.

Many sources say it is 4.4 liter. Is that a fact?
I was really looking forward to this car and hoping for 4.0 liter.

Annual taxes here for anything over 4.0 liter is just crazy.

Definitely evolutionary design but still looks way better than all the other cars in the segment.
Interior is a step above current 5 and now probably the best in the segment.
I loved my F10 535i and happy to see BMW not mess up the new one.

Can't wait to build one online and new M5 will be a monster!

BMW have not disappointed with the new 5.. The exterior is sleeker and sportier .. I’m one of the few who like the rear
As for the interior some great techs there but I’m still not convinced about the screen sticking out.. I have that on my F80 and feel it’s out of place
"Specs" are interesting, especially on the 550i.. This car is going to be a beast so I can’t yet imagine how good the M5 is going to be
I was considering switching to AMG at the end of my lease but after seeing the new 5 will probably wait for the next M5.. It’s going to be long wait

As with the F10 (and opposed to the F30) I like this better without the M Sport bumpers. Looks more business and stylish without

Two things I really cared about for the G30 were the new physical size dimensions and the curb weight.

Let's see G30 is 1.2" longer, 0.3" wider, and 0.6" taller than the F10. That's a big increase in size. Good for the back seat passengers for sure, as even the wheel base has been increased by 0.2" but I am not looking for a bigger car than the F10. 1.2" increase in length is significant as well as the 0.6" increase in height. There's just no hiding the fact that the G30 is a BIG car. How big you might be wondering, well here are some comparisons

G30 5-Series:

- Length: 194.6"
- Height: 58.2"
- Width: 73.5"

F01 7-Series (Standard Wheel Base Version):

- Length: 199.7"
- Height: 58.2"
- Width: 74.9"

E65 7-Series (Standard Wheel Base Version):

- Length: 198.4"
- Height: 58.7"
- Width: 74.9"

2017 W213 Mecedes E-Class:

- Length: 193.8"
- Height: 57.8"
- Width: 72.9"

Second, the weight comparison.

Based off of the info on BMWUSA.com, the F10 535i has a U.S. curb weight of 3,957lbs. While according to today's info the G30 540i has a U.S. curb weight of 3,847lbs. This corresponds to a 110lbs weight reduction from two directly comparable models, the BMW 535i and 540i. This is a pretty good reduction in weight, but I was hoping for more honestly. However based on this information I just don't see how ///M Division is going to be able to knock off more than another 100lbs for the next M5. Losing weight is hard, and with all of this new tech inside of the 5-Series that's going to make it even harder for the next M5 to drop pounds. Owing to this new information today, I predict that we won't see any more than a 250lbs weight drop from the F10 M5 to the F90 (G80) M5. Which by the way the 2016 Cadillac CTS-V already weighs 250lbs less than the F10 M5 today. Granted the CTS-V doesn't have a lot of the fancy tech that BMW has though.

http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...fications.aspx

In the end, I like the new G30 5-Series, but I was hoping for more progress in terms of weight reduction. I'm not sure if we're ever going to get there if they keep making the car bigger and adding more technological features, but hey thanks to Tesla and their self driving cars, it's what people want these days, and nobody seems to care that the Model S weighs over 4,900lbs.

Let's compare some German weight data about the G30 VS the F10 just to have the same standard of measuring (Unladen DIN with 90% full tank and NO driver)

F10 535i: 1685 kg or 3715 lbs. G30 540i: 1595 kg or 3516 lbs
Difference: 90 kg or 198 lbs.

F10 520d: 1620 kg or 3571lbs. G30 520d: 1540 kg or 3395 lbs
Difference: 80 kg or 176 lbs.

VS Mercedes Latest E Class:
Mercedes E 200D: 1680 kg or 3704 lbs. Heavier by a whopping 140 kg or 309 lbs!! And we're talking about cars that are released within months of each other!

Another weight comparo of the 5er and E class (equivalent models)

530i: 1540 kg or 3395 lbs. E300: 1655 kg or 3649 lbs. Difference: 115 kg or 254 lbs.

540i X Drive (Mercedes only has 4matic for this category): 1660 kg or 3660 lbs. E 400 4Matic: 1820 kg or 4012 lbs. Difference: 160 kg or 353 lbs!!!

I can say just based on weight difference that the G30 will be a much better driving car than the E class!

VS Jaguar XF (made of Aluminium!!)
520d: 1540 kg or 3395 lbs. XF 2.0d: 1585 kg or 3494 lbs. Difference: 45 kg or 99 lbs.

540i: 1595 kg or 3516 lbs. XF 35t: 1710 kg or 3770 lbs. Difference: 115 kg or 254 lbs.

540i X Drive: 1660 kg or 3660 lbs. XF 35t AWD: 1760 kg or 3880 lbs. Difference 100 kg or 220 lbs.

The G30 is the leader in its class in low weight, at least until the new Audi A6 arrives...
I think you got the data for 540i not the 540i xDrive.
540i is 1660kg, but xDrive model should be ~1730kg.
