Coding 12V Socket to power with car

Is there a way on the G30 to code the 12V cig lighter behind the cup holders to go off and on with the car?

I have a radar detector i would like the power to come from this and go on/off with the car

How do they work now? They just always stay on no matter what?

I'm pretty sure the cig lighter powers off 2-3 minutes after car turns off. Might be different timing based on whether you lock doors.... Check that.

I will give that a try, i did lock the doors and it stayed on but i didnt stay there to watch for 2-3 mins.

I guess the other option is a mirror tap up top and get rid of all the wires.

Wire to to the fuse box to fuse #50 with a tap. I HIGHLY suggest not doing a mirror tap. BMW's are very picky on power. Fuse #50 is unused and is constant power. It's very easy to do and won't eff with the electrical current needed for all of the safety systems in the mirror housing. Plus those harnesses are really hard to get to.

Personal experience or did you learn this from others? Thanks for the info. Might prove useful if I pull the trigger on a Blackvue dashcam. Or I might use the Blackvue OBD2 adapter.

Here's another wiring option, basically the procedure I followed for my Blackvue DR750S 2CH: https://g30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1457675

I made a custom wire (longer than what came with the camera) for the rear camera and ran it under the floorboards to avoid interfering with air bags.

Thanks that’s perfect. I did notice the socket turns off after 2 mins. You were correct. I like the mount and wiring off the mirror. My corvette has the blend mount on the mirror and it works perfectly just like your pictures.

Earlier he mentions specifically not to use a mirror tap so I think he added a fuse tap and not a mirror tap.

You do not want to use the mirror tap. I still have mine what I ended up not using. The harnesses are incredibly difficult to get to and it's not advised to mess with any of the electrical current going to the safety systems inside of that housing. Just don't do it.

Go to fuse block number 50 with a fuse tap. The fuse box is located on the passenger side kick panel and is very easy to get to.. if you run a direct wire, just make sure to route it behind the airbag in the A pillar.

Do you have the link to the wire tap that you used?

If you're talking about the direct wire kit, I use the one that Escort Radar sells for their radar detectors. As as as the fuse tap, you can get those on Amazon.

If you have an escort radar detector, it's better to get their wiring kit since it has the extra mute button on the end. Besides that, one isn't any better than the other.

Posted this in another thread. The directions in the link are excellent; I was able to simply tuck the tap cord under the moldings without removing them.

VirtualGuitars is right. I did that using a fuse tap bought on Amazon with a 10 ft. cord (https://www.amazon.com/Detector-Hard...gateway&sr=8-1 -- about $25) and followed the excellent directions supplied here: http://www.eyephysics.com/BMWG30/bmwg30.html. I did not have to remove any interior body panels to run the cord. It just tucked in under the panels. I used a plastic trim tool to help. When plugged into the unused fuse slot #F59 that I used (located at the end of the fuse block), the detector stays on a while after you shut down as it is wired to a time delay relay. It comes on again when you open the door. --Bob
