I want an oil change. My car only has 1.5k miles...(Possible?)

I had my car for 8 months and my car has 1,500 miles. My job is 5 minutes away and many restaurants and movie theaters I go to are about the same distance. I don't get to drive a lot since everything is so close. I have a movie theater 8 minutes walking distance from my home.

My question is. Can I still get an oil change very year? When should I wait and ask them about the oil change?

Yes, you can get an oil change annually no matter your mileage.

Why wait? Call your BMW center any time and don't be afraid to ask them straight up.

Not sure about Dubai, but in the U.S. you would qualify for an annual low mileage oil change, and it's a year from the last oil service or date when the car went in to service. Don't understand your last question. Ask your dealer about it now - - no need to wait - - if there's some doubt in your mind. Your driving pattern by the way fits the definition of severe service.

I am in the usa right now. Also you said this: Your driving pattern by the way fits the definition of severe service.

Does this mean I am damaging my car by not driving so much? What is making it severe for me to get it serviced?

With such short trips, the oil never gets fully warmed up (really hot) so it can't drive off fuel dilution and water (a by-product of combustion when a cold engine is first running - - ever notice water dripping from the exhaust of a car driving ahead?). The water in the oil can combine with the sulfur in the gas and oil to form corrosive acids. The oil has base additives that will neutralize acids - - up to a point

Your engine has an oil condition sensor in the oil sump that will measure how well the oil is holding up. In your case it will probably alert you to the need for an oil service at or before the one year mark.

Wow I am getting nervous now. There is a mall I can go to that is about 20 minutes away...

Does it help if a drive a little fast to warm up the oil?

As stated, oil changes are xx miles, or a year.
You can also get one whenever you like, just go to a BMW dealer and $$ for it.

Depending on where you are in the US, do some sight seeing during the weekends, and put some miles on that 4bagner !

Well, it's not just hitting a temp mark (210 or 250, or whatever the normal op temp is on your car). It needs to stay there for awhile before the oil can volatilize or burn off the fuel and water entrained in it. At least that's the theory. How long does that take? I would guess at least 20 min, possibly more.

As a practical matter, you can get an idea of what your driving pattern does to the condition of your oil by doing a used oil analysis of a sample taken the next time you have the oil changed. To learn more about how to do UOA's, check out this popular site - http://www.blackstone-labs.com/. Many people on this forum use Blackstone. In your case, however, I'd recommend the Oil Analyzers lab - http://www.oaitesting.com/index.htm, because you probably have fuel dilution with your kind of driving. Blackstone does not actually measure fuel dilution, they estimate it using a formula (not particularly accurate). OAI measures fuel dilution much more accurately using an ASTM test method and test equipment.

Once you get the UOA report the next hurdle for a burgeoning oil geek will be interpreting the results. The lab may be helpful in that regard, and you can also post your report on this forum to get feedback from the collective brain (that should be fun).

If you don't want to get into all that, you can hope or trust that your oil condition sensor will alert you when your oil is degraded to the point that you need to change it. You can learn more about these neat devices here - http://www.machinerylubrication.com/...filter-sensors. BMW uses the Continental Temic oil sensor mentioned in the article.

Or, you can forget all that stuff and just take your BMW out at least once a week for a good, long romp. Get the oil sizzling hot. Kind of the old "Italian tune-up' routine.

You can always get an oil change, distance driven with it doesn't matter. I change mine every 5,000 miles on my car and drive probably 6-7k miles a year.
