Driver Assistance Plus... Glad you ordered it?

For those M3/M4 owners who ordered the driver's assistance plus package I was wondering if you were glad you shelled out the extra money for these features. I test drove an M4 this week with this package and I was pretty happy to have the speed limit posted next to my speed so I definitely see how this package could be quite useful. Does the active driving assistant bring the car to a full stop if you're about to collide with the vehicle in front of you?

All I wanted was Speed Limit Info. I skipped the package - I hope it can be coded in.

Not worth the money. Not in a 3 series. My M5 would be useless without it though.

I drove my M4 for a week in Europe for the first time with these features, having never tried them out, and yes, I am very glad I ordered it. It was great to know the speed limit - especially in Europe where there are cameras everywhere (drove in Switzerland) and the speed limit changes every 30 seconds. The active driving assistant, from what I understand, will not bring the car to a full stop, but can apply some braking in some circumstances (pedestrians), and possibly do a full stop too, but I have no intentions of trying it. It's supposed to work differently and at different speeds for pedestrians vs other vehicles.

I've already had the red "car coming too close" icon in the HUD when someone braked heavily in front of me, and the blind spot buzzer also already went off when someone was changing lanes at the same time I was. Did any of these aids actually help to prevent what would have been an accident? I highly doubt it, but you never know the one time that it will, which then makes it worth the money without question.

I ordered it in my M4 vert build. Because on the "rare" occasion when someone has to use your car or you're on a busy highway when a first time driver is cutting you off, it's helpful. While I'd think you'd be 100% attentive while driver, sometimes things happen. It gives me an excuse to buy more coffee (warning reminder!). Also, for some family members/in-laws, I can tell them it's impossible for me to run your over in the driveway.

In Canada we can order the speed limit info a $350 stand alone option and I ordered it. This is the only option I consider useful in the US driver's assitant pack (called technology pack in Canada and also adds high beam assist).

I don't have my M4 yet but this was the mentality that ultimately led to me ordering it. If it prevents ONE accident it could save a person's life or keep them from being severely injured - and so it's worth it.

I was going to get the side and top surround cameras separately, but since I have HUD, and I test drove a 5 series with both HUD and speed limit info on the HUD, which was very cool, I decided that I would get the driver assist package to get both surround cameras and speed limit info as well as the rest of the package's features.

I admit: too lazy to search,

Is it possible to turn all of these functions off?

I was on the track (Thunderhill) not too long ago and someone in a new RS5 didn't know how to turn off the collision avoidance system (they found out after the second session) and they were hating it. The car was braking constantly so that it wouldn't "hit" the car in front, which is not what you want happening on the track, especially in a fast turn!!

I almost got in an accident today because of the collision avoidance system. Saw the car cutting me off, went to change lanes, and BAMM car brakes like crazy and scares the ever living shit out of me. I can't STAND that function, I almost got rear ended. Worst part is you can turn it off only on each drive, so it pops back on when you restart.

Yikes! That's scary. The less intervention the better. I don't want my car to think for me.

Did it ever occur to you that your 9500ix is just missing it? Try it with a Redline or V1.

Cheers.
