How hard is it to change interior leather color?
I'm having a hard time finding a car with the right color combo so I wanted to know how easy it is to change the interior color either through dye or re-upholstering.
Im currently eyeing a 335 but it has grey interior. I either want saddle or oyster. Also obviously need to change the door panels. How would I go about doing the door handle? Last edited by JunkyardDogg; 07-03-2014 at 05:21 PM.. |

I don't think it's possible that includes labor--it's a very labor intensive task. All leather panels must be removed from the car, deep-cleaned, prepped, stained multiple times (I've heard an air gun works best), and then reinstalled.
You may have better luck going to saddle than going to Oyster--but Leatherique could definitely tell you that. I know it would take a lot of effort to go to red b/c of an environmental regulation that has made newer red dyes much less potent. I.e. going from black to red is probably next-to-impossible. |

That sucks there doesn't seem to be many options. I've checked with a few reupholstery places and they quoted 5k! One place offered to dye for $3200-4000. So damn expensive but I'm scared to do it myself lol

I had a place quote me $1200 for reupholstering certain parts of the car. Just the center- to give two tone.

This is the cheapest time you will ever be able to change out the complete interior in the car, find a large dealer (doesn't have to be bmw) and tell them you will buy it on the spot if they bring a leather guy in and let you choose material/color. If they are desperate they will cover the cost.
I did this on a new 2013 Mustang GT and they had some of the nicest leather I have ever seen and will even do extended leather if you find a good guy. Anywhere between $600-$1250. |
