i8 preview in Canberra

I was lucky enough to receive an invite to see the new i8 and i3 here at the dealership in Canberra. The i8 is currently the only one in the southern hemisphere - and amazing to look at in person. Really nice detailed touches throughout and I was very surprised that the view from the driver's seat, at least forwards and to the side was actually very good; and not too bad to the rear (but I was just in the showroom!). Interior headroom was more than expected - I am 184 cm tall.

The car is off to other dealerships across the country as of next week - check it out if you get the chance.

Wow, that interior is so 1980's. Almost Star Trek:TNG aesthetics going on.

That steering wheel looks shocking! (reminds me of the tiller in my VE Calais)

I seriously thought that was blue painters tape on the grilles at first also!

I heard its worth high $200k!?!? Fark that give me a V10 R8...

Pretty Nice Car I tailgated one of them when they were testing it one on an unlimited section of the autobahn just outside Munich.

It was pretty fast but nothing compared to The M5 It just powered past them

The Key for them are Dope though.

I have just learned from a mate who lives in the US that the price for the i8 there is US$139,000. That is just ever so slightly less than our ~$308,000. Thanks to all our taxes and BMW Aust pricing regime.

Hmm if it was $139k AUD it might get some more respect here, but I cant see it being that popular here unfortunately in that price bracket...

It's never going to be a volume seller here in the Aussie market, agree with you on that. But 4 have already been pre-sold here in Canberra which is amazing for this town. One buyer put his deposit down more than a year ago after seeing the concept. I reckon there will be more on the roads in places like Sydney/Melb but not until March next year.

Heads up for the Melburnians - they've got this at the Southbank dealership right now. Looks pretty sweet and JJH has captured all the good angles by the look of it!
