Note for LSD drivers - Break in Service

Just an FYI for those who opted for the LSD. After speaking w my service manager, M235i 1,200 break in service is not officially covered (I got mine paid for). In any event, the M3/M4 1,200 that is covered includes both oil and filter change along with a fluid change for the diff. I do not believe the 1,200 is covered in the event you opt for the diff, but may want to pay out of pocket in the event you own the car and plan to keep it for a while. Based on my limited understanding of the engineering behind this stuff it sounds like the diff fluid change may be the more important of the two.

Hmm...thx for sharing. I have the LSD and may need to talk to my dealer about this. From what I understand, the diff fluid, which is sposed to be good for 50k mi, can only be changed by removing the LSD from the car. Going to be an expensive service!

Was told the whole thing including oil change was 4 hours. I could be mistaken but I believe the true Ms come with break in fluid that must be flushed then replaced with whatever the normal stuff is. Again, I'm far from an expert but from what I can tell it's worth looking into at the very least.

Yes real M cars must change Diff oil (is a LSD, not open diff like ours)

One thing to note is that the LSD isn't an M LSD (those are the adaptive ones and are $$$, vary the lock % dynamically) so maybe no break in fluid? I'll have to chat with my parts guy I just ordered my diff.

Yeah I wasn't claiming to have answers just wanted to give folks a heads up that it's worth asking, especially with so much confusion about service interval to begin with.

well, I sent an email to Drexler but unsurprisingly they declined to provide any recommendations re: break-in and fluid changes. here is their reply:

Dear sir or madam, <------

thank you for your inquiry. For all questions about “running in period” and “fluid changes” please contact your bmw dealer.

Mit freundlichen Gruß / Best regards
