I do not think that is the correct oil. That looks to me like the BMW's regular(dino) oil and not BMW"s synthetic oil! The synthetic oil has a blue label.

I believe the correct oil is: BMW LL04 (LongLife-04) 0w40 p/n 83210398504

IF you live in Europe you want to use a LL4 rated oil. LL1 is for the US market with high sulfur content in the fuel.

To be 100% sure, I would contact your local BMW dealer and have them look up the correct engine oil in the ETK(electronic teile katalog or electronic parts catalog). Normally like with the N55, engine... you can use any LL4 rated oils, 0w30, 0w40, 5w30, 5w40.

How ever I am not 100% sure with the S55 engine, although I suspect its the same.

some BMW oils...

IDK. I think as long as the oil is a LL4 rated oil... in either 0w30, 0w40, 5w30 or 5w40 you will be fine. I think it could be just as in the N54 and N55 engine manuals... they list one or two oil viscountcies... but then BMW service uses four types.

My info came direct from BMW AG service info that the dealers have access to. So it's reliable.

Garage List
BMW Original vs. Castrol Edge

This would purport that Castrol Edge might be better than the BMW Original oil.
