DIY: Trunk grocery hooks
This isn't the most exciting of mods but I find it really useful. I had these same hooks in my Audi A4 (came stock from the factory with them) and used them all the time so I knew I'd want them in the M235i too.
Very easy to do, takes 15 minutes, maybe. The hooks I purchased on Amazon, they are $9.97 each: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0095EH3SY I found the easiest way to do this was to put the seat backs down and lay on your back, head toward trunk. Pretty comfortable really. Area on each side where the hooks will mount. I put them flush with the edge and about 1.5" from the seat back release handle. Test fit the hook against the sheetmetal and then mark the spots where you will drill, then drill using a drill bit that is smaller than the screw itself. You can start off the screws using a magnetic drill bit holder or just use a flathead screwdriver from the start. The screws I used were a #12x1" screw. And that's it, easiest mod you'll ever do. |

The bags don't hang there, they're still on the ground but are held up by the hooks so that the stuff in them doesn't fall out. It works great. And for $20 it's really useful.

Wow. What a waste. We already have grocery hooks on the side of the trunk. One on each side. I use them all the time.

Yeah, like I said, had them in the A4 and my wife's E350 also has one right in the center. Like I said, for $20 and 15 minutes of work, I think it's a cool little thing.

Have you tried the hook that were already there? They work fine for me. They work extremely well with the plastic bags.

This is a great mod. These hooks come standard on Audi's and they work fantastic. I added these hooks to every car I own and will do so to the M235 as well! If the OP hadn't done the DIY post I would have! Thanks!

Guys,
You are missing the point. The M235i comes standard with two grocery hooks. One on each side of the trunk. |

They are larger, spring loaded to keep tension on the bags so they don't slip off, and automatically retract out of the way when not in use. The positioning in the middle of the trunk makes it more versatile as well.

Great Mod! I used just one of the Audi hooks and mounted it in the middle. I used the allen keyed nut and bolts that came with it instead of sheet metal screws. Very easy mod since you can easily get your hands in the metal decking to position the nuts. Works perfectly!

I mean, maybe I'm hanging groceries wrong, but I found them to be completely useless. They were great on my F30, but the shape of the F22 trunk renders them useless for me except for the smallest bags. Especially if there is a need to actually keep something upright.
