Weird Noise
Hi all,
I got a new 228i a few weeks ago, and it has been great so far! However, I have 2 issues with the car that I am getting checked out hopefully today. Just wanted to see if anyone here had some insight about the issues, because it is very possible that I am being paranoid. Issue 1. I am hearing an odd noise from the rear of the car when going in reverse. It sounds almost like an electronic switch turning on and off constantly. I do not know how else to explain it really but its loud and bizarre. Issue 2. Not really mechanical but the voice recognition button on the steering wheel does not work at all. Thanks for all the help, Chris |

Just my guess; the reverse issue may be a type of diagnostic of the ABS system - but I have no experience with the car.
Voice recognition is often sketchy. |

That would make sense in regards to the ABS diagnostic. I'm hoping that is the case. I did notice that it only seems to happen after I go on a drive and come back home and back into my driveway.

So I brought my car in to pick up my plates and had them take a look at the car for the noises.
They told me that it is the exhaust valves turning on and off electronically. Hopefully someone can give me insight to as if this makes any sense or not. And for the voice recognition control, I just do not have the feature. Thanks for all your advice! |

I don't think you can just code it in without also retrofitting some parts, but I'm not 100% sure.

I have the same thing happening to me. After a drive and the car in the garage, a few minutes of something that sounds like small pressure relief valves opening. Could be the exhaust valves. Wonder why they need to cycle through...unless it's to help prevent build up on the valves?

I have the same issue and thought it was odd to still have the button. However, it actually does do something depending on the phone that is paired and connected. With a Samsung Galaxy s4 it enables the phone's voice recognition.
