K&N Drop In Filter

Any one tested the K&N drop in filters yet?

33-2488 lists the M3 and M4 as applicable

One dyno showed a 23rwhp gain while the other one only a 19 rwhp gain, but different dynos, different days. Probably safe to average them and expect 21rwhp improvement.

Where did you see that because I am more than doubtful? In fact, I am 99.99999% sure that they aren't giving any significant power.

We installed a set on an M4 last week.

Doubt 21whp gains are possible from filters, but they will become a bit more beneficial when tunes are released and its a great time to get in there and remove the charcoal liners.

Perhaps you should, because for the amount of super dumb stuff that gets posted on here, that wasn't a bit surprising. Maybe 40whp increase will suffice next time

The sad/funny thing is that there are people who truly believe a pair of drop in filters will result in double digit HP gains.

(Note that I don't mean the posters in this thread, but in car forums in general)

We'll likely be lucky to get a 2-3 HP gain with just drop in filters. Cold air intakes (depending on design, of course) MAY yield 4-6, but it looks like the intake system of the S55 was pretty well designed already.

Have you ever seen the charcoal filters above the paper ones? I couldn't even shine a light through them on my m5 lol so between the paper and charcoal ones I wouldn't be shocked if their was some small gains getting both those out of there.

What is the purpose of the charcoal filters?

What filter is better BMC or K&N?

^ Charcoal filters are supposedly there to absorb fuel odors escaping the intake system. Required by EPA. The charcoal filters are not fitted to European models!

There are not going to be significant gains between BMC and K&N, both should add a little better sound and removing the charcoal filters will help too. Since the K&N is less than half the price of the BMC, its a no brainer to me.

Well C7 vette picks 15 to 20whp with a drop in filter. It could be possible for the S55 engine.

The BMCs have a much better build quality, K&N always been a bit messy on the wicking of the filters where it bonds to the edges. Both should provide similar results.

We always keep both brands on hand.

Seriously. I for one, wouldn't have been surprised if he was serious at all, considering there are trolls all over the place these days.

I'd like you to think about the fact that the C7 has a 6.2L small block V-8 and the F8x has a 3.0 I-6 (and made by a company who has been doing a pretty damn good job from the factory as far as induction goes in the recent years). You tell me which will benefit significantly more from intake parts----and that's not even mentioning the I6 historical data...

Geez, chillout guys. Just wishful thinking.

The C7 made the gains on a dyno with a fan. Anyways the S55 might not pick up that much, but it would be nice.

Stock are already paper. Just remove the charcoal liner if you want to keep dry, we can do that for you during your visit.
