Escort Mute Button with Mirror Tap?

The V1 Audi guys used to wire up a small, flat mute button on the back of their turn signal stalks. I'd like to do something similar with my Redline that's wired using a mirror tap. So power from mirror then run the mute button someplace in cabin. I THINK you could remove the plug on the mirror tap, add the mute wire and reattach the plug (or a new one probably). Would need a wiring diagram. Anyone 1. Have any idea what I'm talking about and 2. Have more than my nursery school level understanding of how this shit works?

If you are going to run a wire all the way down for the mute function, then I wonder the benefit of tapping the mirror?

I have my Passport Max wired with the "smart" cable that has the mute function and it is velcro'd to the steering wheel assembly on the right side near the lower part of the wheel shroud assembly (plastic crap around wheel, near the area you're supposed to put your key if the battery is dead).

Here is the smart cord in blue (they have red also) if you didn't know of it's existence.
It's nice because it is direct wire also. https://www.escortradar.com/store/di...cord-blue.html

Anyhow I tapped 12v ignition from my backup camera module (was the easiest switched 12volts I found under there), and have it ran up to the detector that is just above the dash, just left of the nav screen. I know some people prefer to mount it high (by the mirror), but to each their own, that is actually the height the manufacturer recommends it.

I have pics, etc... if it helps, not sure it will though.
The smart cables are nice to have though.

Not the best pic, but you get the idea.

Switched 12 volts can be obtained here.

Thanks for the info! I had the smart cable in my old S4, it was great bc the fuse box was on the drivers side right up front. In this case though I've already got power, so if I could run the single wire for mute button down the a-pillar and just mount it someplace I figured that was the easiest way to go. As this is def nice to have as opposed to need to have I don't want to go too crazy.

In all honesty I'm probably just getting bored and searching for a project.
