Leak in my trunk area, ultimately fried my amp...

Hey guys, so here's my thread about whats going on.
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1017610

Has anybody else had issues with leaks in their trunks and how they resolved their issue?

I have an appointment with my bmw dealership in a week, however i feel like it will be a waste of time. They will tell me that the amp is fried and will tell me it costs $1300 to replace it.
-First question is, can i just plug and play any L7 Amp ?
-Is there a way i can convince the dealership that the issue is with the car and nothing to do with me or wear and tear?

The bigger issue is, the leak in my trunk will happen again if its not fixed and there's no doubt it will prob fry my amp again (if its fried or not).

Let me know your thoughts please.

I'll take a wild guess at the sunroof drains. A cracked taillight or failed taillight seal would be another wild guess. If not, maybe a trunk that's not closed completely.

Body shops often need to track down water leaks -- basically, they just spray water on the car until the leak reveals itself. You might give them a head-start on tracking it down by taking the car to a DIY car wash and aiming the wand at the suspected entry points.

From your photos it looks like your amp might be too far gone to repair. The Logic 7 amps frequently show up on eBay, but look fairly pricey. I might go for a new one with a discount from a dealer like Tischer before a used one, even at half-price.

The bottom of the trunk has got to be the dumbest place that BMW engineers could possibly think of to locate water-sensitive electronic components. From another thread on the subject:

They are plug and play if you get the same part no
and even if don't.
Also there are places that repair them.
Some of them are in these links
Becker auto sound for example.

For 1500 bucks you would be on your way to aftermarket system the that would
put L7 to shame.

Ideally i would like to get this resolved with little $ as possible obviously. This is pretty unacceptable to have an amp susceptible to water so easily, and me having to deal with replacing it.

This happened to my 328i lci 2011 e90; i complained for days because it had recently rained but they were stuck on telling me its my fault due to a half dranken closed water bottle in my trunk.... They did seal repairs on my trunk and completely took apart my back end. They quoted me 1300 aswell but i got them to do it as warranty. Push your SA to have a leak test done to your car. Water was slowly seeping into my amps housing

Happened to my e90 way back when. It was the seal that failed and water dripped. It was insanely expensive to fix. They try to blame me for having gatorade in my trunk. I tell them if you don't fix this ill just go to a different dealer and report you to BMWNA and they gave me a 335i loaner and brought it back with no gas.

Should be covered under CPO warranty since gaskets an seals are covered if thats the reason why it happened. You may go through your car insurance company if i exceeds what you think is excessive.

Saw a brand new 335i at the shop and I asked what happened I think this was in 2006 and apparently mice went into the engine bay and started to eat through wires. It was like 15k worth of damage new wiring harness and labor. I saw it there for at least 2 weeks. The lady went through car insurance and made a claim because the dealer told her if we did something wrong we will take care of it but we can't take blame for a third party damage.

Yes rust may form may not depends how much damage has occured. In my case I didn't garage keep my car for about 2 days and it was heavy rainfall. Started my car and no music and checked the rear looked fine. It was one of the seals let the water in and fried the amp. Luckily not that much water came in and I checked it 8 years later still good. I have an 05 build e90

Yup, not saying it will have rust but the seeds have certainly been laid.

find out the leak on your own if $$ is the issue. Take the carpet finish off, lay down the trunk floor and walls with absorbing paper towels, run water test and frequently check the paper towels for wet spots. You should be able to find the direction where the water is coming from at the price of one paper towel roll

Hopefully I can have bmw find the leaks/seals that are leaking and bank off a manufacturers defect. I talked to bmwna, that's what he recommended. If not yeah id give it a shot to finding it myself and finding and amp.

I had the same issue when a gallon of washer fluid spilled in the trunk. The radio was out for three weeks. I just waited for the fluid to completely dry and all was well. Be patience, it will dry out and will start working soon.

Even if my car was on and running? I even reset the battery at least 3 separate times as well.

Dry it for a day or two, and plug it back in.

If that doesnt work order one on ebay.

I am def looking on ebay for sure. However i have heard that some L7 amps are not compatible. I haven't received a solid answer yet if i can plug and play without recoding.

L7 amps are coded to chasis? Year? Older Models of the amp?

Had something similar happen to me. It was a faulty taillight seal. Luckily, I dried my amp off as soon as I heard symptoms and took it to BMW to have the seal fixed. No permanent damage done.

I had my car diagnosed. The problem is that there is a trunk seal that is bulged and is the cause of the leak. I am quoted 1855.34 to fix it. However i am getting it reimbursed from the shop that did not seal my trunk correctly. They are going to write me a check.

My question is, can i order the amplifier online (new OEM) and bring it into the dealership to have it installed, or will they refuse?

Exclamation Sound amplifier corroded

I have a 2014 BMW 328i Sportwagon. I was just at the dealer and the circuit board is corroded. Can I repair it with baking soda solution, removing corrosion. Would this work.

Also It looks like moisture came from the battery side. I had dealer replace the battery. Is there a water seal in that area? Could they have accidentally displaced it?
