Sound Upgrade - Custom Box!! Need help with gas door rattle
Hey everyone, I just came to a good stopping point with my trunk and thought I'll share some pics. It's fully leathered and can be taken out and put back in within 5min (no screws/perfect fit). I even added pics of the secret door. Still need some touch ups but I'm happy thus far.
Also, I REALLY need help/suggestions on stopping the rattle from the gas door (worst ever). Sorry for the quality of some pics |

Very nice build , now to answer your question .What i have done is to stick some dynamat on the inside of the gas filler door .You need to stick a small strip behind the plastic hinge cover as the rattle is coming from there, have half holding the plastic cover and the other half on the metal part of the gas door.It has solved my problem but then again i have one sub not 3.

The sides are monsters. The box was pretty simple to make, 3 days max, but the sides are what hold everything together so they have to be tight. And to avoid using screws, we placed the ends under the rubber outline of the trunk. On top of everything, the left and right side aren't identical. So be ready to use a lot of bondo and sandpaper. After that, everything fell into place. We used magnets to keep the doors in place but didn't think about opening them as much

Thanks! Had to go through my share of quarries to find them lol. But forreal tho, it's all fiberglass and wood construction covered in black leather.
For your upgrade, it'll all depend on your budget. I originally went with 2x 8" focals but the second one never came in (waited about 3 months) and I just got tired of that company. I will forever say that's a great brand, esp if you want quality, but I didn't like the set up in the trunk (couldn't use my trunk cover anymore) and they cost a lot (don't do anything less than K2 series IMO with focal). That's why I went with the JL audios. Another good brand, cheaper, and it gave me the deeper thump I was looking for. As far as interior, I went with the MB Quarts, BMW edition because it was hard as hell to find the speaker sizes for our doors and mods was off the table. I think focal have some 5.25" speakers that would fit but I wasn't going to put $3000 speakers under my seats either. |
