Navigation Screen slowly dims

2013 335xi M-Sport is the car. twice now my navigation screen has visibly dimmed down to almost un-viewable levels. both times it was during daylight hours and sunny or bright out. started the car, started to drive and i notice that the screen is getting darker and darker.

The first time it stayed this way for a long time and then suddenly went back to normal brightness while still driving (after about 20 minutes or so).

Today it did not. I stopped the car turned it off and then restarted the ACC and it was still almost dark. i came back to the car after 30 minutes and it was fine after restarting.

note that i was experiencing this without sunglasses on (i.e.. not polarization issue).

anyone else have this issue or might know what is happening?

I have noticed the same thing on my car. It only happens if it has been sitting in the sun for some time and the interior is very hot. Maybe some kind of overheat protection?

If your MY13 was built before December 2012 BMW has a new LCD. Old part was ENDED which could indicate there was an issue with the old part.
