Tire Pressure Reading

How do you get the actual tire pressure to show when you check the TPS status?

First you need to check if you have metal stems

If you have tech package you should see actual PSI...
If you don't then you need to code it...also you can code temp too...

With my tech package from vehicle in March, I didn't see any readings at all. It was just green or orange. I coded for the readings.

Metal stems have nothing to do with it. I'm pretty sure we all have metal stems on the 2. And I don't have the readings either

it does... if you don't have metal stems you definitely have no readings....

maybe in the US but in other countries they come with rubber stems...

Mine was built in March 2014 and it shows psi readings. BMW changed the tire pressure monitor sensors to a different type in March 2014, but that still doesn't explain why some folks who have cars that were built in March don't have it.

Check your driver's door jamb, if you haven't already, and you can see the build month of your car.

I have run flats. No read out. Although I believe that probably has no bearing on whether the sensor can detect PSI or temps. Run flats still have air in them and work the same way as a regular tire with the exception of an additional structure inside. Also as I've stated on a previous thread I believe all of our cars have the same TPMS installed. Its a mystery why BMW didn't enable all cars to show the PSI read out. But the TPMS is monitoring tire pressure otherwise we wouldn't be getting green/yellow read outs on the tire systems page. There is an old technology that BMW used to use that measured rotational speed (I think) of the wheel to let you know if your tire was flat. I doubt they still use that system due to it's lack of functionality. When the TPMS can do that and more for probably a similar price. As well as less parts for BMW to have on hand. AND one last thing.. The systems page specifically says "Tire Pressure Monitoring System".

well not really the rotational one is much cheaper cause it's done through the ABS sensor i think and doesn't require a dedicated sensor inside the tire... ie. canada only gets that one with no PSI....

no matter if it's the FTM or TPM they will call it TPMS for consistency purposes
