Mods on a Lease Car?
I am thinking of getting a CF Front Lip Spoiler or Eye Lid (are there OEM eye lid?)
Since my car is a leased one, I am wondering what kind of mods will not void my lease. I heard that as long as you can reverse the changes you made, it is okay but is a front lip or eye lid change reversible?

That´s right. Any mod you can and will reverse before return without any lasting damage to the car is usually fine with the leasing company. But some things are not so obvious: When putting on 20inch wheels for example you´ll be increasing the wear on the suspension parts, so even if you put the stock wheels back on before return, you´re leasing company might not be too happy about it. But the CF flaps are uncritical. If you follow the instructiuons carefully, you can take them off later without any damage to the bumper or it´s paint (they actually come with protective strips that you first stick to the bumper and then glue the flaps to, just so you can take them off later). The rear spoiler though would be a problem. It´s glued directly to the trunk and cannot be take off later without damaging the paint. If in doubt, just ask your leasing company. There are no OEM Eye lids. And wether they´re critical, depands on how they are mounted. Often they are glued onto the headlight housing and are thereby unsuitable for a leased car. But if you find some that are mounted without glue, go ahead.

Thanks Tierfreund. I think i'll go ahead with the Front Lip.
(See, you only get this kind of detailed (and not to mention fast!) reply from e90post.com)

Just ask year leasing company.
I have installed a roof spoiler and lowering springs on my previous car and the leasing company had no problems with it, but they would not allow installing a K&N air filter. My E90 is leased through the dealership. I am planning to mount the Hartge front lip and my salesman has no problems with this. Maybe he would if I would "rice" my car with some kind of horrendous front bumper. |

Also, not sure if you already have the car, but if you want BMW OEM accessories, you can add them into the price of the car at purchase (lease inception) and you are only paying for a percentage of them, so to speak (just how you are paying for a percentage of your car, i.e. the depreciation over the duration of the lease).
Personally, I doubt they would even notice the rear spoiler or the CF lips (OEM) I have the rear trunk spoiler glued on, and I am just going to leave it on when I return the car. In retrospect, I should have ordered the car with it; it would have cost me less out of pocket. |

If you're a car guy, you don't have a choice.. it's a disease!
In my case, the lease deal on a base 328i was too good to pass up.. However, the mission then becomes that of differentiating yourself from all the secretaries. It sux to pass yourself on the street everyday. One thing leads to another, and before you know it, you threw 10k in the damn thing! |

So, what do you do at the end of the lease with all of the mod parts that you take off?

Mods on a Lease
This is my first lease.
If I do small stuff like pedals and powder coating the calipers can I expect any troubles 3 years from now when/if I return it? Anyone have any experiences they can share in this area? I will put the old wheels back on and will wait on exhaust and springs until I figure out if I want to keep it...... |

Dealer was my next stop
Thought I would see if anyone here had experiences to share. I figure, in the end, everything is negotiable and if I want to turn the car in and get a new one they will want to work a deal one way or another....wanted to test that assumption
I am thinking red on the calipers |

This is my first BMW lease. I had a $300 credit in the parts department and I didn't want $300 worth of BMW polo shirts!!!
So, I used my credit for blackline tail lights. I'll be removing them and selling them when I return my lease. Other than that, I wouldn't put any mods on a lease that you couldn't remove later. No point in putting money into something you're going to have to give back anyway. |
