My M235i: DYNO Update (407whp / 450wtq)

Hey everyone!

I've been wanting to dyno, but work has kept me busy and summer has been way too hot to strap the car on the rollers. However, today was nice in SoCal, so I took my car to eAs to see what my car would put down with its current setup. I am extremely pleased with what the car is putting down and 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear are pretty much worthless right now .

Current mods:

aFe Intake
ER FMIC
ER Chargepipe
ER Downpipe
M-Performance exhaust
JB4 +FF + EWG Wires + E35 fuel mix + Map 6 (16 psi)

The lovely dyno sheet:

Great numbers and beautiful sound.I think you may have convinced me on the downpipes .
I am sure there is still some power you are leaving on the table.
I know different Dyno, day.conditions but mine made almost exactly the same with same fuel with only MPE/jB4 after Terry adjusted the map.I can post my graphs to compare but don't want to steal any of your thunder!- mines too quiet anyway.lol
I am sure your mods are worth and additional 20-20 whip.

400+ wbhp and 450 wlbft with e30 fuel + MPE + JB4 only and no other bolt ons. That's very impressive, are you running JB4 with FF and EWG wires ?

What map did you use for the dyno pulls ?

See you finally reached your 400+ HP goal! Nice job. After my trials with a couple different piggyback tunes I decided to not do the build-out. Will try a different branded Stage 1 plug-in next week, but this is about all I really want to do with the car.

Very impressed with your numbers and work you done thus far. Enjoy every minute behind the wheel of your labors...

I like how the HP hangs on almost to redline. Do you have the files from your stock run so that you can overlay them?

Very impressive numbers, graph looks good !!!

How is the drivability under normal driving compared to stock? How is idle and cold startups and initial drive before complete warm up? Did you happen to get the SAE numbers?

Very nice !!!

Wow, great results. That's the nicest TQ curve I've seen on any N55 car.

Curious why OP's graph shows the powerband holds steady for about 1500RPMs versus olaosunt's more peaky band.

Dunno.
May be the additional mods he has ?(Intake, down pipes)
could it be the smoothing?I will replace that photo with the dyno file when he sends and smooth at 5 and see.

Yeah I dyno'd my car at the same place olaosunt did and I just think it is the smoothing they use.

The graphs look very similar. It's just smoothing.

Are you guys running Map 7 and E30 daily? I run 4 gallons of E85 to a tank of 91 since I have an E85 station 3 miles from my office so might as well try Map 7...just gotta get some Map 2 logs over to the guys first for the all clear first.

Curious, Justin...have the BMS guys reviewed your logs and informed to tweak any of the settings, or are all the settings standard mapping as delivered on the JB4?

I thought you were done with tunes for this year?

Which are you trying now if you don't mind sharing?

Curious about this too. I'd like to see logs for these runs.. would be great if this was 'out of the box' Map 7 (?) and default settings.

olasunt did say for his Map 7 setup (identical to Justin minus DP and intake but *SAME* power!) Terry suggested some 'tweaks'.

I forgot to list the map and boost settings, so I've updated the original thread. I am running Map 6 @ 16 psi. I am not using Map 7, because it runs you up to 18.5 psi and I didn't want to test it or push the car that hard. So I'm pretty happy that I made these numbers with 2 psi over Map 2 and 2.5 psi less than Map 7.

@olaosunt - I noticed you're using Map 7 which runs your car at 18.5 psi, however, I am running 2.5 psi less on Map 6 with 16 psi . I rather not push the car too hard to make the numbers and have it do it naturally on lower boost.

@make_em_say_eun - I was on Map 6 (16 psi).

@Delnari - Thanks buddy! Please post up how you do with the other branded stage 1!

@snodgrass23 - I don't and I'll try to get one next time I am around the shop.

@alz0rz - Its an E35 mix with 91/E35. I am not using Map 7, but I'm using Map 6 @ 16psi which is 2.5psi less than Map 7.

@dt20011 - Nice meeting you too dude! I hope you enjoy the car in good health and try E85 sometime .

@FC4 - They've reviewed it and it seems fine. I am not knocking and my ign_adv is pretty low. I run an E35 mix of 91/E85 and its been good to me so far.

Curious what my numbers would be if I went up to Map 7 .

You can see the smoothing in both graphs are different. Mine is at 5 (max smoothing) and his is at 3, but we both use a DynoJet as well.

Who made your tune for Map 6? It's a custom user-adjustable map and I was under the impression there was no pre-set or standard mapping for it.
