Factory alarm question

Just got a used 335i...might not understand how the alarm works...the red light under the mirror should blink when active right?

Mine never blinks and using remote can't get "panic" alarm to go off. Could the previous owner turned off the alarm?

Red light blinks when armed. Are you sure there is an alarmed installed?

Sounds like you don't have an alarm.

The housing for the light, if its clear then the car is not pre-wired for an alarm. If it is red, and it is not blinking then it is pre-wired but no alarm was ever installed into the car.

The housing is on every 3 series. Of course, no red light blinky, no alarm stinky!

The car is most likely just pre-wired for the alarm system, but there's no alarm system installed in the car. Check with the previous owner to see if he/she purchased and installed the alarm. There's a small chance someone could've disabled the alarm, but that's highly unlikely.

yeah... run your VIN. you probably have only "alarm prep" not the actual alarm. Tischer has good specials every now and then on the alarm parts if you want to add it, but it will have to be coded in.

Disappointment: my owner's manual states that if the car is equipped with the alarm that the windows will roll up when you lock the doors, but they don't. So I spent the money for the alarm but didn't get the functionality that I was hoping for... (but it is nice to have the motion sensor so I don't have to roll the windows up if I'm just running into sleven or something)

Do mean the car will roll the windows up automatically??

If you had to get the vehicle coded, you might want to see if you have access to that coder again.

With or without the alarm, you should be able to code an E90 to roll the windows up and close the sunroof (as well as fold the mirrors in) with the right coding (and obviously if you have folding mirrors installed)

No, the alarm includes a motion sensor in the dome light so you can leave the windows down if you're just going into a store for a few minutes.

Right, and I do - it was the dealership that coded the alarm in though because I installed it right before I left for a road trip, I'd installed both the alarm and Sirius, and I was due for an oil change anyway,

I've tried a few times to get a working coding setup for myself, but I am a laptop killa.

I actually meant the rolling window up thingy. As I was surprised if if was automatically but I get what you are saying now.

Someone in the past probably forgot to update the VO when coding the car. A local coder can take care of that and probably also do a whole bunch of customizations for u as well at the same time.

If u just want the blinky clown nose or the beep for arm/disarm... You can have the car coded to do that even with no alarm parts installed on the car. Car alarm is over rated on these cars... If u wanna spend money on something get a flashlogic remote start put in instead

What code is the alarm?
I have S8TGA Diebstahlsicherung Thiefproofing device on mine, but no blinky from the rearview.

best way to check is to open the bonnet on the first latch. lock the car leave it to arm for a minute or two then open the bonnet fully and the alarm should sound if it is installed.

i always do this when buying second hands cars.
