My thoughts on BMWhat app
So I bought the BMWhat app and their bluetooth connecter. ($63 + $44)
I'm really impressed, it was easy to connect to my galaxy S5, and easy to code and read faults. Haven't played with the parameters dashboard yet. So far i have coded: - No more seatbelt chime (yay!) - Seatbelt extenders turned off - Digital speedo (corrected speed) - Fog lights on with welcome lights - Turned up the brightness of angel eyes The only thing I haven't been able to get working so far is not needing the foot on the brake to start it. I was also hoping it might be able to get rid of the message on startup you have to accept each time - but this is not included. All up I'm very happy with it. I'll keep the BT connecter in the glove box and I can read any faults at any time. Worth it imo. |

Sounds really good.
I haven't heard of it but I would like to get rid of the "accept" message on the idrive display. Let me know if you can turn that off! That light changes sounds really good as well. Do you have a link to it? Advantages over NCS Expert? |

I don't know what reset adaptations are... perhaps check their website? I also don't know what shadow codes are... are they important? Here is a sample of an error code I logged if you can tell from that. Instrument cluster: Instrument cluster / Kombiinstrument Fehler: Shutdown / Terminal shutdown Code: A559 I haven't uses the parameters yet to see if there is oil temp and coolant temp, i'm guessing there would be. There is quite a few threads on BMWhat from other parts of this forum, which is why i gave this a go. |

So your car is PRE-LCI/facelift?
I notice it says Before Facelift / until model year ca. 03/2007, but I think our MY2008 models fall into this category? |

They say before 03/07 build date you need the cable and 03/07 onwards you need the BT connector. I don't know how that aligns with Oz model's hardware, but the BT connector works a treat for me. |

Confused. And amazed.
These guys need help with their marketing. The Bluetooth ODB adaptor says on the website "Coding only for models built after ca. 03/2007 or after face lift. Coding is not yet possible with the iviniApp for BMW." 03/2007 onwards came in pre-LCI as well as LCI. Mine is 09/2007 and pre-LCI. Coding only works after 03/2007 but not yet possible for BMW? What the? This iPhone app and adaptor is too good to be true but do I want to burn EUR 44 in the hope that it works on mine? |

Perhaps the confusion (read ambiguity) is on purpose because the hardware on various models around the world varies so much - a 03/07 build in Oz might be different to America?? Not sure, and also not sure if it is LCI/PreLCI relevant as what what can tell its all about the speed of the OBD connection.
Also I'm not sure where you see not compatible with BMW... the app is call BMWhat afterall I read on other threads the iOS version of this app is much more limited than the android app; so fair warning there. There is also mixed success of people using other brand BT connectors (cheap ebay ones) which is why i spent a bit more and bought theirs. |

Had a look this morning - yes to does. You can choose up to 6 to view at a time.
There is also a 'dashboard' view (I hadn't set the min/max in the picture) |

Well, on reading the odd scatty web site further I've decided to order. Some pages link to Android only Bluetooth connectors, some to iOS only Bluetooth connectors... I *think* I've ordered an iOS version but no matter as I have an old Android device if things don't pan out... looking forward to playing with this... since my pre-LCI is a late 2007 MY08 model I am assuming it'll be OK. I'll report back when I get my device.

I hope they upgrade the software to replace a battery because mine is about ready to cark it. Once thing positive about the BMW battery registration software: it might be a pain in the arse but I'm still on my first battery which is a year or two longer than I've ever experienced before in a car.

Ive programmed the 2006 models with the UTG cable, this is android specific. Ive personally used both the UTG cable version as well the Bluetooth version on my 2008, a 2009, and a late build 2007. The bluetooth is for androids, the IOS guys need the wifi adapter. Great app, Ive programmed about a dozen cars at this point.
Its no where near as strong as NCS Expert, but for me it did more than enough. I programmed what lights come on or off, brighter angel eyes, deleted corners, seatbelt reminders, signal flash to 5, speedo in dash and about 24 other things. What it cant do that NCS expert can would be to add or remove modules. |

Also does anybody know wether you can code the side mirrors to stop doing its 'self check/adjust' everytime you start the car? Since my passanger side one's sensor is screwed & it always self adjust to some random angle+position. |
