But the final price with installation and shipping is unknown, if I am reading this correctly:

BMW M Performance Limited Slip Differential $2,895
.
For the ultimate in track day performance, The differential features a 30% lockup on accerleration and 9% lockup on deceleration. The differentaial works with the existing DSC system to provide excellent traction wet or dry.
Each price is the suggested retail price and is subject to change. Unless otherwise stated, price excludes installation and taxes. Installed prices are based on an estimated installation time and the center’s labor rate, and are subject to change. Due to the number of variables that ultimately determine freight costs, FREIGHT CHARGES ARE ESTIMATED until an order is shipped and actual freight charges are calculated. Check with your authorized BMW center for complete accuracy of information and product availability.

Boo. My car went into production last week. Even if this is dealer installed, I would be curious if it would be added to the sticker and used for MSRP purposes and lease residual value.

BMW accessories get an add on label to the Monroney sticker that show the cost of the accessory, adjusted MSRP, and yes that factors into the MSRP so the accessories are residual.

So if you want any accessories, you'd pay the residual price.

It would be a lot cheaper if factory installed.

I'll ask my CA about it. I know it would be cheaper if I did a port install (or if it were a factory option), but neither of those are available to me as I'm doing Euro Delivery and they have stopped allowing port installs for ED cars.

If I can get this accessory added after the car returns and factored into the sticker for residual, then it won't be as bad as paying outright for it.

Ah, you did not mention Euro Delivery.

In that case you'd have to speak to your dealer. The dealer may have to install it themselves which could change things. I believe what I said above will only apply to port installed accessories.

Right. I know my CA said that some expensive items like a $4k set of wheels could be residualized even if dealer installed, but generally not the case. The fact that BMW put this on the configurator... well, ALL the M-Performance parts are "accessories", but none are advertised as part of the "order". And this is specifically for a dealer-installed accessory, which is why I'm wondering. If I can residualize, I might look at it. If not, I'll wait for the M2 :P

Well, got my answer. And it's a negative. I'm sure this car will be loads of fun, but the LSD would have made it a little more fun on the track. Too bad they did away with port installs for ED.

My dealer is still suggesting that I port install the LSD over having the dealer do it. They claim the port install may delay the arrival by 1-2 weeks however.

Cost of LSD: $2895 (MSRP) or $2537 (ECS Tuning)
The estimate of Port Installed LSD: $3450 (at MSRP)
The estimate of Dealer Installed LSD: $4130 (at MSRP)

3k for an LSD was much, 4k is just stupid imho. That and the fact the FAQ claims a 2.5 hour install, but the dealer claims 6.5 hours at $140/hr.

Am I missing something or can this just be done later with a few friends and lift?

Just read car and driver lightening lap 8 and I just can't help but wonder what a LSD would have done for the lap time. LSD should have been a standard item or part of a performance package deal from day 1.
