ELF 5W-40 engine oil!?

Have anyone heard of this engine oil?

The mechanic told me that they are using this, i am wonder if it is safe to use for our BMW?
I read many posts saying that Castrol EDGE 5W-30 is the best, and is BMW approved longlife engine oil....

There are many approved long life oils that are safe for BMW (not just Castrol)... but I've not heard of ELF before. Not sure where they come from.

It's French and part of the TOTAL oils company. Just make sure it is the EVOLUTION 900 FT 5W-40, which is BMW LL01 approved.

Yeah, not everyone uses Castrol... my car had Valvoline Synguard 5W-40 put in. Thought about changing it to Castrol but then was suggested not to bother but rather told just to change the oild more regularly like at most every 10,000kms rather than they usual 15,000-20,000 or so that bmw seems to recommend.

As long as its BMW LL01 approved you can follow the CBS computer changes (which mine is telling me my oil could go for 30,000km)...

If you only do few kms it's definitely worth getting done at least annually as well.

Probably not that long, but I'm considering stretching it to every ~20,000km (so 10k less compared to the computer).

I do ~500km a week for work & most of it is all on the freeway/highway with very few stop start traffic (work afternoon/night shits), so the engine should be having a pretty easy life anyway...

Is there anyone using Shell Helix engine oil?

My mechanic said that's what they are using now.......sounds a bit uncommon?
I am thinking to supply the more common castrol edge engine oil for them to do the oil change......
