Good news- getting my VANOS replaced this week!

My SA confirmed I was under the recall, and they have the parts too! Should be done tomorrow or the next day- woohoo!

I've talked to a tech, and was I shouldn't be as worried, because I have a August 2011 build.

Congrats, haha!

Glad to hear more and more now that people's cars are getting fixed. I don't think it's as widespread as it seems since this is an online forum where people talk bout their car problems a lot, but regardless of all that, it's still nice to see people getting some peace of mind.

I'm looking forward to getting my car fixed up on Monday! Just 6 days and one road trip in there before then. I'll be fine though, the vast majority of us will be. *knocks on wood*

My car is a May 2011 build, so it's a bit later in the MY 2011 build cycle as well. The recall report indicated most failures are occurring in cars with build dates between May-July 2010 with about 40k miles on them. Still can't hurt to get it checked out and fixed though!

Honestly, these guys don't know much about this except for what someone else told them. That's why you will see people be told they are not part of a recall and a week later they get the letter that they are.

Ya I don't understand how the press release clearly states 2010-2012 3-series yet there are people with 2011s saying that their cars aren't affected. I would dispute it if the dealership told me that.

BMW NA told me directly on the phone that my 2011 (9/2011 build date) was not affected by the recall.

There's a guy in another thread with a 2012 that had this issue. Let's hope that your car doesn't have issues with the VANOS bolts then. Because if it does, and it's out of warranty, you will have to fit the bill.

Honestly not too worried about it, but they did just tell me this like within the last week or two.
I've only got 38k miles right now, and under warranty until 100k.

They also stated in the recall that cars not getting the bolts replaced will have their warranty on Vanos extended.

Quite frankly, while, it's great to know you're covered for 100K, it sure will be a miserable experience if the bolts shear during a long trip in mid acceleration

Well I guess that gives a little extra peace of mind then.

Ya especially if you're FBO and your car breaks down while driving and wont start. That will be a fun experience.

Not true. Certain cars are for sure with the issue, they replace. Rest in that time frame are covered under an extended warranty on that part.

My favorite dealer! They're open later, so if I need to score a loaner (which I should have, in retrospect), I could.

They're my "rattle" specialists.

What kind of rattles did you have? I have one inside of the drivers side door and one one near the odo..
