jb4 or flashtune?

Hi
Just wondering how safe the jb4 is compared to a tune from a perfomance shop.
Does anyone know where i can get a jb4 in melbourne?

I believe Active Motorwerke supply and install JB4's.

I am not affiliated with them and I've never used their shop for service but their reputation on these boards is second to none for Melbourne shops.

Only reason I didn't get my JB4 from them was because I installed myself, due to living down the Peninsula (about 1 hour from them).

After getting the JB4, I would suggest getting that first over a tune. I asked the same question only months ago, and I don't regret the JB4 one bit.

I originally thought that getting a direct flash tune was legal, due to my interpretation of the vehicle standards... turns out both are illegal - only difference is that one is plug and play with no specialists tools or software, and the other is not.

Only reason I would get a custom tune over the JB4 is if you have already modified everything else and want a custom tune to take advantage of everything installed. The JB4 has a self-learning map though, so I don't know if even the flash tune would help that much.

going to ask you a few questions first before answering that

How long have you had your car?
What are your future plans for the car?

I just bought the car 2 weeks ago and i plan on keeping it for about 2 years. Im just abit worried about a few things, i read somewhere jb4 has no control of timing compared to a flashtune and i will hate having engine light or error codes popping up. Does this happen with jb4? I also notice alot of people complaining about missfiring with jb4?

Future plans will be downpipes and a cold air intake. Not into meth or changing turbos or going full crazy on it.

I have had JB4 for a few months and not had one engine light or misfire.

I replaced the coil packs and spark plugs at the same time I installed Jb4. Everything else is standard including air box.

I would get JB4 as it's cheap, reversible and provides other features not in a flash tune (code reading, safety map, gauge information etc). You can resell it if you don't like it. You can't resell a flash tune.

What he said. Unless you're really penny pinching or you're a proper DIY guy, just get it supplied and installed by a good workshop as it will be supported. Have owned my car for a month and got my JB4 from Active. They seem OK.

You won't be needing any timing changes with your mod list.

I originally had a flash tune on mine when I purchased it but decided to go with JB4 because I read all the rave reviews here on the forum. Personally, I feel the car is slightly slower on the JB4 compared to the flash tune but this could also be placebo...

Yes - Mine has gauge hijack disabled.

You can set it to always on, on when throttle is >50% (i.e. when you mash the pedal and want to see boost levels) or always off, I believe.

JB4 without a doubt. I've been running mine for over 4 years. I've also run my car flash only and it's not as smooth as the JB4.

Not a must unless you experience misfiring. Just change your plugs every 15k.
