Question On Car Inspection & Service
i have about 22k miles on my car and never got a free oil change from the dealer. doesn't the dealer give you a free oil change every 10k miles?
also when do i need to get inspections 1? at 30k miles is it? then at 20k intervals? Last edited by hl0m4n; 12-28-2007 at 05:46 PM.. |

If you put the words "girl," "what color should I get," or "short skirt" in your post you'll get 5000 views and almost 1000 replies. Use "coral red" and maybe 10000 views and 400 replies. But if you ask a legitimate question, you'll be told RTFM. As far as I can see from the manual, nothing is needed at 1 year except oil. |

I just got to know my sales person really well, as well as the service guys as I've ordered tons of things from them from my 330ci over the years. I just ask them and they have it done, free. Simple as that. Granted I only have 900 miles on mine but I've had my finace's done twice now with no cost.

I'm assuming you don't have nav, because you would be able to see all of the maintenance reminders. I believe the premium package will contact the dealer when it is time for maintenance though it appears it is up to the dealer to contact you for scheduling at that point.
When you start your car, it should display a number of miles to your next appointment on the dash display. So far all maintenace for my car has been free. State inspections are not. We're still waiting to see what happens on my wife's car to see how non-IDrive vehicles remind you. |

I received my BMW on December 21, 06. On December 13, 07 I got my free oil change. My car was no where close to 15,000 miles. You do not have to have 15,000 miles to get the oil change. You do not have to go 1 year to get the oil change. See where I'M going with this. It's 15,000 miles or 1 year which ever comes first.
My car never said "hey its time" I just read in the manual that it was 1 year or 15,000 miles.

It's just a little surprising that people like the OP would be so cavalier about maintenance. Most people would think that if you fail to do the minimum required maintenance you could have difficulty with warranty claims that might come up. Maintenance requirements are outlined clearly in the owner's manual; you might get answers here that are consistent with these, or you might not. That's the main reason why it makes sense to read the owner's manual.

Non-idrive counts down both miles and date in the instrument cluster. when you walk into the dealership they plug your fob into their computer and it tells them which service is needed, AND just how fast you've been driving her j/k

now that i think about it, the dealer did give me a free oil change at 14k miles when i got my oil cooler retrofit.
i keep doing oil changes every 5-6k miles but the free one from bmw is every 15k? also for the inspection, i am not speaking about the state but the inspections that bmw gives you for instance looking/adjusting valves, spark plugs, etc to make sure your car is running perfectly. this is done every 30k miles? |

In reality there is no fixed mileage or dates anymore. It's all "CBS" = Condition Based Service. This is where the key fob reading comes in. Also even if you're close to a specific service and you happen to be at the Svc. Dept. for something else, the dealership will not combine the services because the CBS is not requiring it yet, so you may have to make 2-trips within a short period of time.
But to make a long story short, the Inspection 1 is at 30K miles. If you miss the service indicator at start-up, you can always access it through the turn stalk OBC (non I-drive cars). Considering many of us buy the cars because of the "free" maintenace, I'm surprised that anyone would go over 20K miles and not realize that they haven't received a "free" oil change yet.

do we have to pay for inspections? since inspection 1 is in the 50k warranty isn't it free? so we pay for the next at 60k? seems like a $1-2k job.

ok, the Inspection 1 service is no longer applicable w/ the E90. The condition based service replaced the "inspection1, inspection 2 services". At approx 30,000 miles your vehicle is due for the "vehicle check", which is a thorough overview on your vehicles systems. Unlike the e46 M3's, the valves have Hydraulic lifters, therefore there is no adjustment, and the spark plugs arent replaced until 100,000 miles. Every 2 years is the brake fluid flush interval, and when the vheicle deems necessary, your air filter will be replaced along with the oil service. The "inspection" is your state inspection due date, if you have state inspections where you live.
