iOS update 8.0.2
So, my iPhone 6 just installed the new update, and now I don't even get the SMS to show up on the screen (it says that there are no messages). After purchasing the phone, I was at least getting the messages, BUT could not reply using Dragon (which was a breeze with Galaxy S5). Now I don't even get messages. WTF is going on? I moved from Android in order to get more functionality, but so far that amounts only to seeing Pandora info on the screen and other stuff does not work.

I was having all kinds of problems, including the car showing my number when someone called, buttons not working, etc.
I did "reset all settings" on my phone, re-synced with the car, and now everything is working, including SMS. still not seeing email. I will warn that there are also IOS issues with doing the "reset all settings" trick. If you use Cloud Drive to store your documents, there have been reports of this deleting all documents. So if you are using that, I would not suggest trying it for now, otherwise, shouldnt be any issues other than having to set up wifi and touch ID again, everything else works as normal. Also, no option to reply to texts currently that I can tell. I may switch back to android, I am a bit of a phone junky.

IOS 8.0.2 Bugs in Audio
The iPhone Audio is all messed up after updating the IOS.
Bluetooth streaming only starts playing a song if I get the phone out and press play (not safe). Navigating songs with dial or click wheel (steering wheel) will look like is going through the songs but you can't select any - oddly the radio scrolling works fine, and telephone. You can change playlists - but it pauses the song and won't play (again requiring you get the phone out and press play again). All of this happens with USB or Bluetooth. PROOF -my wife has the same iPhone 5 on IOS7 and it works perfectly on USB and Bluetooth. Apple has really screwed this update up. Don't get me started on my home iPad issues |

Depending on which iphone you are using, iOS 8 performance will vary. If you aren't using the 6 or the 6+, you will probably continue to experience problems with iOS 8. 8 was really designed to run on a 6 or 6+. However, I can't guarantee that using a 6 with iOS 8 won't have other problems of it's own. BMW may need to do an update to its software to be more compatible with 8, along with Apple further releasing updates to clean out the bugs. My guess that in time, it will eventually work well as all the bugs are worked out of both systems.

I've a 5S with Ios 8.02 and all seems to be OK (phone calls in/out and text messages). I don't use it for streaming though.

IMO Apple released a not-really-ready major iOS version here - I had the dev-version on my iPhone 5 since June and I hated it but couldn't really move back. things went better when the final release installed. one day before picking up the M4 I fetched the iPhone 6, installed iOS 8.0.2 on it and tried it on the car.
first call I got was from my own number (on screen), and call dropped when I picked up. second time (it was actually my GF calling both times, no idea why my own number showed on the car screen - on the phone it was her number showing) right after I picked up the call (with the car "phone" button), the music in the car came back on and the call was actually (only) on the handset. gave up since then, luckily I have a Galaxy S4 as 2nd phone / work phone, so I'll mainly use that. Music is on a iPod classic which resides in the car, so no major issues there (beside that playlists still show double entries and other niggles, same I had for 5 years in the E92 3-series coupé... hoped that either BMW and/or Apple would iron those out, but no luck there it seems). how I hate this "hurry up, let's forget about testing, TIME TO MARKET ya know!!!!" with many manufacturers nowadays.

Same issues
Shows up as my number calling. Outgoing calls connect, but nothing comes over the speaker.
Totally sucks, my iPhone 6 is unusable. Not really into wiping the phone and starting again, does that really work?? |

Fixed
I figured it out. For those of you having this problem, I believe it is caused by restoring your iPhone 6 from a backup (presumably your earlier iPhone). To fix it, go to Settings > General > Reset. Don't do the reset that wipes all your data, do the one that just resets your iPhone settings.
That should do it. I didn't even need to re-pair the phone. As an extra measure, you can rename your phone (again, Settings > General > About). |

Folks need to think long and hard before becoming early adopters of OS upgrades (unless you have the geek gene like me and don't mind dealing with the initial bugs). This is par for the course with OS upgrades and since Apple does it annually you would do well to wait for .1 updates (or several week to make sure the bugs are minor) before upgrading on older hardware. This is often a non issue for Android users because most Android manufactures don't put out updates for their phones. Your next upgrade comes when you buy a new phone

I have a new M4 and everything appears to be set up ok. However, I can't answer the phone using the phone button the steering wheel or the iDrive. I have a 5S and also using 8.0.2. Any suggestions?
