They are... wait until the CCB break in a bit
A close friend won't buy cars with CCB any longer (he has had several Porsche with them) because they are so loud on the street after a while. Maybe BMW found a way to avoid this...

4k miles and not a single squeal but that can all change quickly.

Steel brakes and no squealing so far. But I will wait until winter before passing judgement. My S4's brakes would squeal like crazy when the temperature went below 40 degrees. Kind of annoying.

I've had my steel brakes squeal a couple of times when I'd been driving fairly hot on twisty roads. This was after covering about 1100 miles. I found it pretty irritating if I'm honest because I never got any squeals from my previous 335d however hard I drove it. I'm post first service now, so really intend to kick its arse and see how it goes... Hopefully the brake squeal was just a temporary thing...

i have noticed a few squeals last few days as I pulled into my garage. Could be the heat? either way I've only heard it a few times so not worrying about it at this time

I had a few squeals when the car was new, but I did a few break-in stops when I had about 200 miles on the odometer. Since then, no squeals at all!!
Now I will say our pads are dusty as hell and I'll be switching to a different brand of pad when these wear out!!

the loud squeak is probably a result of a high intensity braking session that acted as a sort of brake bedding. you really should bed your brakes. if you drive normal for a while between your next high intensity driving session you might find that the squeaking comes back. Stomp them hard a few times and you'll have to go through a small "re-bedding" session, but that should do the trick. Basically, there's no getting out of it. its just part of the high class problems of owning a very high performance car.

The steels can be loud if you REALLY brake, like track braking... Like leg press machine brake, mine did all over the Alps and Ring, all good though. Normal under hard braking

mine do squeak from time to time, maybe its the compound of the pads themselves that makes it do that, I remember when I had pagids on the R8 those things were noisey as hell

Put some brake anti-squeal paste on the back of your pads.

I have the CCBs and only hear brake squeaks when car is stopped and then i turn the wheel. I have a 6MT and hear the noise typically at a stop sign when i'm turning. Don't hear noise in straight line braking, but sometimes right before stop when the wheel is turned.
I saw in an earlier thread (i believe SirLoin) had an issue with CCBs as they were different thicknesses - but caused severe shaking when braking at high speeds. have about 2k miles in - and the noise isn't that annoying for me to get checked out - and assumed noise would be part of the experience - along with awesome incredible brake feel and stopping power
