Leather Care

I am not a person that likes cleaning cars, particularly detailing anything on them. 2 or 3 times a year I take the cars to a professional detailer, pay up for my laziness and be happy.

I recently saw this video from Auto Obsessed, and I thought this looks easy enough that even I might be able to do it. So, I ordered the products without much of any expectations.

I first tried it on our son's car in case something goes wrong with me attempting this. His is a 2000 Land Cruiser at about 100K miles that he was given by my lovely wife about four years ago. During that time he of course never cleaned the interior with typical teenager usage, so things are literally disgusting inside. Perfect test bed.

The first picture shows 5 mins of cleaning with the products, it worked exactly as advertised, which was a surprise for me. The light color leather shows the contrast between cleaned surface vs. before. Of course due to lack of attention all these years, there are actual cracks in the leather that cleaning won't repair.

Then I moved to the armrests:

Then I moved to our 2005 645, which has just past 50K mi. It has been better taken care over the years and it was fully detailed about 4 months ago. However, the results were equally impressive, even though it is difficult to see in the pictures due to the black leather.

Before:

After, you can see the cleaned half vs. uncleaned:

So, I think Silverstone interior owners have a chance keeping the leather clean and as close to original as possible

According to BMW's description of merino leather, it's aniline leather. Meaning it is uncoated. If this is the case, then you might not see the same results with the same cleaning products on your SS seats. If the merino leather is semi-aniline, which I suspect it is, you should be OK.

Aaah, shows how little I know, thank you. I ordered black interior knowing I won't clean the SS and it would look horrible over time
