AT: Long pull left paddle to shift into lowest safe gear?
How does this work / Is this working for anyone?
I can't seem to figure out how to get it to downshift into the lowest possible gear by long pulling as it says in the manual when in manual mode. Doing so just seem to shift down to the next sequential gear. Seem to recall the CA saying that the 8AT wouldn't always shift down sequentially but that's what it seems to be doing from what I can see. Thanks |

Anyone? In the manual it says this:
Shift down into the lowest possible gear: pull and hold left shift paddle. But doing so only seems to result in one sequential shift down, not any further. |

Pull and hold the paddle and floor the gas pedal. I didn't know about this feature. Thanks for the tip.

I'm not sure I understand that comment. My interest was that the manual said something, the CA said something, ostensibly paid for that something and am unclear on how it actually works. There are easier / more straightforward ways as you and others mention to gear down.
Tried your suggestion FlyingFinn - it does not seem to work if within the first 1/3-1/2 of the throttle pedal range. I did not mash the throttle to the floor as you suggested, so perhaps that is the deciding factor? Will have to test when I have some clear road to try it on. Hopefully that will help to identify the exact pattern to do this. |

I tried it last night and if you do the hold and tap the gas pedal hard (not floor it) it will automatically shift down the the lowest gear it sees fit ONCE, but will not continue to shift down after. (i.e. if decelerating at, say, 2k rpm in 6th, hold the down shift and tap the gas pedal hard it might skip down to 3rd).

I like using the gas pedal to do this. It will not put the car into manual mode. downshifts become controllable through the gas pedal (lowest gear) and upshifts remain automatic.
Fun for street I'm sure for track use you would want to leverage the paddles in manual. |
