Thoughts on lower lip prototype
It seems that many of us are disappointed with the BMW front lip not working without the splitters. I personally don't like the splitters too much but think the lip is the best designed lip currently available. So I decided to try and mock up a solution for the exposed unfinished gap left for the splitters. After trying many different designs I narrowed it down to these two. I decided to go with design1 for my first attempt. Let me know what you guys think... Also let me know if this something you would like to see produced.

I have a black m4 due in late next month. The carbon lips don't look correct. I would buy this ASAP if it were a production piece. I think it looks perfect.

The first design really looks OEM, excellent job on it!

I guess I am missing what you all are seeing, because I don't think it looks great. It still has two patches on the lip that do not match the lip or the bumper.

I have met with two quick prototype companies so far. Both have given me basically the same answer on what this is going to take to produce. In their estimate it will cost 8-10k to build a mold then another couple hundred per piece. The worst part about it is after 25 pieces we need another mold. I wanted to keep the price of these significantly under a carbon fiber version. Seeing the production cost, it doesn't look feasible. One of the companies is going to talk to an overseas company to get a production quote. The only way that works is if I commit to large number of pieces. Other than you who have responded I have no idea how many people would buy something like this. I have no experience with after market parts, if anyone out there has some suggestions on a cheaper solution let me know. I'm also working on a solution that would work with the BMW lip instead of replacing it, more of a filler for the exposed area. This would be cost effective, but is a design challenge. I should have a design I'm happy with soon. pictures to follow

Yeah the two front carbon splitters look terrible. They look like they delete part of the front bumper. There is a white M4 in my area with all perf parts. When I see it from far on the road, it looks like some took a hacksaw to the bumper.
Waiting patiently for the M4 GTS front splitter. Last edited by DieGrüneHölle; 10-22-2014 at 09:44 PM.. |
