Ticking sound clip
I found that there is a ticking noise coming out from my car, does anyone have any idea what's that? Thanks.
Video was taken around the front passenger side wheel after I started my car, stationary. Noise mainly coming from the passenger side, I can't hear this noise from the top of the engine as the engine sound covers it up. Does anyone know what might be this sound please? Checked out some sound clips online, thinking if it is the hydraulic lifter sound but lifter sound should be more rapid. Is my car fxxked? |

Lifter sound found on the internet: So, I guess mine isn't the lifter sound.. Please if anyone could let me know what might be causing that sound on my car. Thanks in advanced. |

Does it only occur with the engine running? And you can only hear it in the wheel well?

yes, it occurs with the engine running. I recorded the sound clip after starting the car with the engine running at about 1k rpm. the sound is quite loud and i can hear it when i stand in front of my car. The sound is louder on the passenger side, and when i recorded to sound, i put my phone next to the Front Left wheel to capture a clear sound of it. Do you know what might be the issue please? I doubt it is the lifter sound... |

1. does it vary at all with engine speed? doesn't sound to be mechanical drivetrain related, but that would be the easiest way to rule it out. have someone hold the engine at 2k rpm (ie double) and see if occurs at the same speed
Also if it doesn't occur at all in different rev ranges, potentially a stuck DISA valve trying to unstick itself? 2. probably a longshot, but turn off your climate control completely (ie press fan speed down until the display turns off), to rule out any HVAC noises (system has a lot of motors and flaps than can fail, although usually this causes sound inside the cabin instead of the wheel well) 3. have a detailed inspection of your fan belt - see first point, should speed up with rev speed if it's a fan belt/pulley noise |

I recalled the mechanic told me the following when i bought my car in to fix the O2 sensor:
"Whirring noise noted from engine, especially at low rpm, possible noisy drive belt pulley, required investigation to accurately diagnose" Would the sound caused by this (drive belt pulley)? I am getting so confused and exhausted now.. |
