How much boost should I have on COBB Stage 1 Aggressive?

Update on post 4. Boost levels were fine and what I was expecting at WOT on the Highway

I just installed a Cobb V3 and have to say I am disappointed - while I only drove it a mile to see if everything installed correctly I did get on it a few times in 2nd and 3rd and it felt almost stock. I noticed that my max boost is around 10.8-11.1 psi but usually is around high 8s or 9s.

Is that normal for Stage 1 Aggressive? I checked the info on the Cobb and it said it was installed and I double checked the installed Map and it said Stage 1 Aggressive.

Was I expecting too much or could there have been an issue on install. Should I reflash?

As an fyi, I run 93 octane. I also have an ER charge pipe and BMS intake - but those are not installed as I wanted to make sure I could install the Cobb before putting those parts on.

even if your cobb didnt install correctly you would be fine installing the intake and CP. you can run both with out a tune at all. but as for not feeling hardly any difference i cant really chime in too much cause i have never used a cobb. but when i put in my JB4 it was night and day even before i had any other parts put in. hopefully you feel more of a boost when you install your other parts. the BMS intake should at least put a smile on your face from the sound differnce

Cobb is offering more conservative gains compared to JB4.

I was running Stage 1 sport not too long ago and I was feeling a slight increase. However the Stage 1 aggressive, I felt the difference during highway pulls. After installing DP, switched over to Stage 2 aggressive with 94 octane it was night and day.

I am planning to Protune the car after installing FMIC and it will the same gains or more as JB4.

I find this to be true. I just drove it a bit more and on the highway and it did feel better on the highway at WOT. I actually was hitting 15.8-16.1 psi.

Low gears and low RPM I still don't feel a huge difference but I will install the Intake/CP and give it some time.

Sorry for wasting everyones time!

Also with a flash tune it takes some time for it to adapt. It's not something that will happen after 1 mile. You have to do some WOT pulls and normal driving. Adding e85 and a pro tune will also add a good amount of power to that set up.

Yeah I have the AP3 on stg 1 aggressive. But I started with stage 1 first. I also have CP, drop in filter and BMW PE. Definitely a big difference on stage 1 aggressive. Give it time to learn.

Thanks for all the input guys!

I installed the ER CP and BMS Intake this morning - I will give it a few days and see how it goes.

Charge Pipe install was much easier than I thought it would be

you won't be able to make much more boost than normal until you get into the higher rpm ranges with stock turbo regardless of which tune/ mods you are running. vroom!

what

most of the boost comes on around 3-4k rpm, at the high rpm range your boost tapers back. not sure why you'd want most of your boost at the top?

I guess i said that a little weird, OP made it sound like he kept it real low and just WOT barely touching 3k or so. I didn't mean up into 6K range because obviously stock turbos run out up there. I guess i should have said "mid rpm range"

thanks for the catch

My car was bone stock and I was running stage 1 aggressive with 94 octane and it felt amazing, very impressive numbers in my opinion

I installed the Cobb AP3 "Stage 1 Aggressive Map" with 93 octane on my 2011 335i with a drop-in panel filter and it was like night and day, a very noticeable difference on the first test drive. It did adapt some and got a little better over time. I ran a lot of logs and was always peaking boost in the 15 to 16 psi range.

Wow - 12.8 on a stock car with Stage 1? How accurate are those numbers, as I thought people were getting into the 12s with FBO and Stage 1?

After driving a bit more it does seem a bit better. I am constantly getting 15-16psi at WOT when at mid RPMs. The car does seem to pull harder through the powerband and at higher gears - also the power seems very smooth through the powerband. I wish it would pull harder in lower gears and at lower RPMs - Mind you I am xDrive but it doesn't even attempt to break loose in 1st or 2nd. Perhaps my expectations were wrong. My last AWD Turbo car was a 91 Talon TSI with a big 16G running 18psi and that seemed to jump off the line compared to this.

Don't get me wrong though, I love the Cobb V3 - easy to use, great interface, etc

I guess I am already wanting to get DP and jump to Stage 2!

Sound pretty good!!!

Now if you have the 6AT have Alex @ AlpineMSS.com remote flash the Alpina B3 transmission software in there! Having that done made my N55 W-A-Y more fun to drive. It solves EVERYTHING that is wrong with the Steptronic programming. Rev-matched down shifts, faster shifting, gear read-outs, hold revs longer, better fuel economy. I am actually getting noticeable better gas mileage with the Cobb and Alpina software.

Fantastic - great news. I wasn't sure if I should go this route. I just emailed Alex. How much did it cost you?

Not sure what he's charging now but I think it was $60 for a remote TCU flash. I added some coding (like the digital speedo) so that cost a little more. But Alex is the ultimate pro when it comes to remote flashing. I screwed up the laptop/connection part on my end but he pulled out every trick in the book and got it all working flawlessly in less than 20 minutes online.
