What did your old BMW look like?
Looking back through a few old photos and came across this picture of my E36 BMW 318se, this is were the journey with BMW started. It had a few options that made it feel special at the time like the electric sunroof, electric mirrors, electric front windows and interior light pack. The main problem with it was the engine on the motorway it just felt sluggish - that said it only had 115 horses to gallop with.

The oldest one I had was an E reg E30 325i 2 door in white, with blue interior. I absolutely loved that car and it felt so bloody fast!

'89 M3, F-reg, Diamond Black, Grey check cloth, 15" BBS, 2.3l, 200bhp... One of the last of the standard non-cat, leaded petrol cars...
Picture was taken on a trip to Oulton Park sometime way back when... I just noticed those shocking wheel arch gaps...

The weighed a good few hundred kg or so less than the current cars... Mine (above) was (IIRC) about 1200kg... What does the M4 weigh now... 1675/1700kg or so..?

Z4 30i first - awful hateful tramlining car designed for the US. Almost made me not touch another BMW.
Then my E92 330d, best car I've ever owned and the longest I've ever kept a car. |

IIRC my car did 0-60 in about 7-8 secs, so not really that fast, but in my head it was so much faster!

Although they were different as race cars, the M3 and Sierra Cosworth were both actually of a similar pace as road cars, both about 6.5 to 7.0 seconds to 62mph... So my present tractor would comfortably outperform both in a straight line... I never drove a Cosworth, but the M3 was a far more immediate and connected car than my present car, and was much nicer to drive on the twisty bits, which probably helped with that impression of speed... It even had a throttle cable and a dipstick..!!!

Did a few bits to my E90, added the Xenons, Ferric MV3's, black grills, M3 spoiler, Exhaust Tip, red tinted reverse lights, DAB & USB.
Still miss that low stiff suspension! |

I did have a Baur 323i convertible in '82 followed by a 325i in '85 but cameras weren't invented back then...

Oh yes! Very low! Didn't rub at all on the arches though considering the width and offsets of the wheels. They were AC Schnitzer Type 1 split rims. It had a lot of genuine rare ACS parts to be fair The interior was out of an E36 M3 GT2. Loved that car.

I can remember a policeman commenting on the 15" 225 wide tyres as being "too wide, and will cause aquaplaning" Thinking back I was a total rebel in those days too, I specifically looked out for a non ABS version. |
