Coding Traffic (ARTTI) / Speed Limit Info?

For those of us who have navi / connected drive options, is there a simple way to code speed limit info or ARTTI into the car?

Would be a cool feature to have, the test drive unit I tried before purchasing had this info, I liked it on the heads up display.

Thoughts?

I just took delivery of my M4 yesterday... The BMW Genius at the delivery center told me that in Australia, the speed limit display is disabled because we have speed limit signs on the back of buses advertising 40km/h speed limits in school zones and it might confuse the cameras.

I too am hoping this is something i can code in!

I have connected drive everything (RTTI, concierge, lane change, driving assistant, internet, etc etc) so i should realistically have all the features i might possibly need to get this working, fingers crossed

ARTTI is factory option 6AM and requires ConnectedDrive Services (6AK) and /or Intelligent Emergency Call (6AC). Does your car not have 6AM?

As for Speed Limit Information (SLI), the car needs a VIN specific AppID 126 (7E) FSC Enabling Code issued by BMW AG that must be Imported and Activated in KAFAS module and then car needs 8TH SLI Coding.

My guess is that you need to have the forward camera inside the rear view mirror base for it to be activated. I also guess that this camera is only present if either the speed limit info or the technology package has been selected (in Canada). Looking at different F8X at my dealer, I could clearly see that not all cars had that camera.

I actually got the speed limit info because it was the cheepest way to get the camera ($350) so I can eventually have the Euro adaptive LED/beam shaping coded.

The required KAFAS Camera comes only with factory Lane Departure Warning (LDW) or Speed Limit Info (SLI).

What about High Beam Assistant (HBA)?

BTW, the technology package in Canada for the F8X consists of LDW, HBA and Blind Spot Detection.

If car has only HBA, it gets the cheaper FLA Camera. If car has either LDW or SLI combined with HBA, it will get upgraded KAFAS Camera which will also handle the HBA function. So without LDW or SLI, no KAFAS.

Thanks for the precision.

I have no idea if SLI or LDW can be ordered as standalone options outside the Technology Package or not. I never look at things in terms of marketing packages, as they vary from year to year, and country to country. I only go by option codes.

Thanks for the post, but I don't really know what any of that (AppID? FSC? KAFAS? 8TH SLI?) means.

I have LDW, HBA and Adaptive LED headlights, but no SLI (as I mentioned, this was not an available option in Australia). I can clearly see a forward facing camera in the rear view mirror.
..... sounds like I should have the KAFAS camera (whatever that means)?

Are you saying that I need BMW AG to issue me with a code that I need to import into my car? How would I go about doing that on the dodgy, as BMW Australia obviously won't help me do this.

So yes, you have KAFAS camera, but you need a 7E FSC Code issued by BMW AG for your VIN, and getting one is a problem. While I believe there is a Part Number for it in ETK, I have yet to hear of anyone being able to successfully order and obtain one.

An FSC Code = Freischaltcode = Enabling code.

Your car has many FSC Codes, most in the Head Unit, that enable features such as Navigation, Voice Control, Text-To-Speech, BMW Apps, Sat Radio, etc., and there are other FSC Codes for other ECU's such as Servotronics (EPS), Night Vision, Speed Limit Information (SLI), Front Collision Warning, Pedestrian Detection, etc. Without the appropriate FSC Code, even if the car has the required hardware, the associated function cannot be enabled.

If you are able to actually get the FSC Code, Modifying your Vehicle Order to add 8TH, Importing and Activating the FSC Code, and Encoding the car for SLI is pretty easily done with E-Sys.

I think I understand, thanks for the in-depth reply!

Sounds like I'm out of luck on this one... I was really hoping that I'd be able to change a few parameters in e-sys and turn the function on!

Dammit...

I wouldn't give up. I'd talk to your dealer and see about ordering the FSC Code.

shawn,

Is it possible to turn on traffic info on a US spec car in Europe? I tried with what's listed in the database and so far no luck. Does it have something to do with different transmitters or what not?

I'm not sure. Does car have 6AM or 6UH?

It's a F80 so they all come with connected services right?

I have no idea if 6AK is standard or not, but by itself means nothing. The car also needs 6AM.

The car definetly has 6Am since NAV has an option to activate traffic info, I'm just not getting anything to show up on my routes.

Is Traffic or ARTTI listed under iDrive Services?

I'm not sure, where do I find I-drive services? I know traffic info is one of the options listed under NAV.

Under iDrive, Connected Drive, there should be a Services section.
