Real time tradfic
I have a 2013 f30 with BMW assist enabled. I don't see realtime traffic, is it available on my Canadian 13 or can it be programmed or activated some how?

I think it is only available with the newer NBT nav system on the 2014 onwards models.

Some Canadian members (including myself) have coded it, but sadly it doesn't work this side of the border for CIC Nav

Though I'd want to research it a little more, given that the Canadian X1s, which have CIC Integration, have RTTI activated with the 2014 and newer MY. Not 100% sure if it works though.

Does this mean that for a 2014 F34, real-time traffic can be activated with a code? I have the BMW assist button in my car, but not the full-fledged connected package with apps etc.

For those who wanted to try it, either add 6UH to your VO or you can change the following with FDL Coding:
HU_CIC 3000 > NAVI_TRAFFIC_INFO_MAP > aktiv 3002 > TI_CA_TMC > aktiv 3002 > TI_TMC_REGIONAL > aktiv 3002 > TI_VINFO > aktiv 3002 > TI_FALLBACK_DISABLED Well with NBT, I would assume that the traffic info is already displayed. Do you have an option to trigger traffic info in your Navigation? It may work the same way it does with CIC without BMW Assist Connected Drive in that it is only able to receive traffic info in the states due to the decoding. |

If I recall correctly for MY2014+ (HU_NBT), its ARTTI and should be already activated.

Exactly, which can't be coded, since already available.
Maybe an owner of a MY2014+ from Canada could tell us if he's able to receive trafic info here from RTTI, if his 1st year free Connected drive is over...

When I got a 2014 428i as a loaner with the Connected Drive package (BMW Online), traffic information showed up immediately and this was on a Saturday. However when I got into a 2015 320i without the Connected Drive package, traffic information toggle was there but no traffic information was available. This was on a Friday. |

This matches how it's working on my car. Can this be coded so that traffic works in Canada without needing a subscription service to work?

Unfortunately no. The system is already programmed to receive the information, but it's up to the local radio stations to make it available free-to-air or on a subscription base. It's possible it's due to the way it decodes it, in that with TomTom or Garmin, they have the rights to receive such info while any other GPS unit may not.

If you have the NBT Professional Navigation (2014 models and on) then you have the Advanced RTTI - but you do have to go into the navigatin options and make sure you have the feature turned on.
THen you will see traffic info on the navigation screen (green/yellow/red lines) and also will be ableo to see traffic problems in the list. BUT - only in the larger areas where the system actually does get full data. In London Ontario I always see the list of problems in the Detroit area - and then you will see some around the Roronto area - and if there is a major issue on the 401 it may also be listed. If you have a route set in your navigation then you will get any alerts that apply to that routing. BUT - it does not seem to be as local as you would like. When I go into my computer and set up a route in "Google Maps" I often see even minor issue in and around the London area (minor like a 3 minute delay) but at the same time none of that is appearing on the BMW traffic info program - even if I have a route set to go through that same spot. So - it works - but the data is not very good for smaller cities. Cheers Jim Cash |

That's only in the US. Here in Canada, we have something called the connected drive professional package which has Real Time Traffic, Remote Services, Internet etc. The package requires professional nav and it's an $850 option. Most cars on the dealer lots don't have this option. If you only have have, the only BMW assist options you get are Emergency Call and that's about it. |
