Heat turning on, on its own?

I noticed often when I drive with the heat off, it turns on by itself at random times. Is that normal?

If you have iDrive go into climate settings and make sure there's nothing abnormal there.

My car did this too. It's comes on at a low setting. Has something to do with the condensation sensor and the outside air temp versus what you have the inside set to. I turn it off and it comes back on. There was a thread on here awhile back about it.

Yeah that's exactly what happens. Not too bothered, just wanted to know what it was. Thank you

I asked the dealer about this when I went in a few months ago, and they said it was normal, there's a fault in the design of one of the sensors is what he told me. Not sure if it's BS or not, but it sounded reasonable.

i drive a 08 335xi and recently when i turn on the heat it seems really weak. cant even hear the air coming through the vents. but when i turn the defrost on for the front windshield you can hear the difference in pressure. is that normal? i had my car at a body shop for a couple weeks and i cant seem to remember if my heat has always been silent or weak or if its something new

If you have the Auto setting on, then it will use sensors to get that side of the cabin to the set temperature. If Auto is off, then it will just blow out hot/cold air depending on the temp. The dash vents have a manual temp setting which is a physical dial. You can use that to adjust those independent of the other settings. Auto is pretty awesome once you play around with it and figure out the nuances... I've come to really like it after several years of ignoring it!
