M4 Now or M2 Later
I know this is an F8X forum, and will take that into account. Also, I really like the M4 BUT...
M4 now or wait for the M2?? I know so little is known about the M2. But my wish, which is probably the same as everyone else wanting/waiting for an M2, is that it's a smaller, lighter M4. I know that will not be the case. Also, I feel like M4 people will cross-shop an M2 (depending on how good it is) a lot more than, say, an M5. Opinions?? BTW mods, if this is better placed in another forum, sorry... |

I'm having a hard time with this as well, as I am keeping my current cars and am not in a rush. Although, I will be going with an F80 if I purchase an F8X platform as I like the looks better and I am a sedan fan. But what I really want to add (if it is done right) is an M2. It's just the extra wait...and I'd probably want to wait for year 2 of the M2 as well.

having a family, the M2 will be too small. M3 for me although i've also been considering an M4 that would require a little more flexibility getting the kiddos in & out of the back but it would only be when we aren't hauling them in the X3.
the M2 will no doubt be good but is definitely more on the 1M side of things looking more like a toy than a functional car. good luck, def a tough call & if i didn't have 2 kids i'd be tossing the idea around myself! matt |

M2 is not exactly around the corner. If M4 is not too much of a stretch, get it & enjoy it and once the M2 is available for a drive, then decide if you like it better... unless u wanna be the first on the block with the M2 but does not seem to be the case

This is my theory as well. I plan on having two M's in the next 6 years. My M4 is coming at the end of the month, when the M2's become accessible and I like the car, maybe I will make the switch. But two M's for me and then the switch to P-cars is my game plan.

That's why I'm holding off on an F80. I'd really like to see what the M2 and M3/4LCI is like before making a decision. I'm not the kind of guy that just flips cars or buy brand new ones without thinking really hard about it.
There's also a good chance I'll keep both the E36 and E92, and add a lightly used AY F80 in 3 years.... even though patience is not really my virtue

From my sources here in Dubai the M2 will not need 2 years to hit the market
In fact I was invited to an M performance day that will take place In October/November this year (all M cars) at the dubai autodrome and the new M2 is supposed to be there. Probably an early prototype. Cheers |

Seems like the M2 might be pretty similar to the M235 race car.
I'd guess it's at least another 1.5 years before an M2 becomes available. The things I like about the M2, if they make it this way: Reminiscent of an E46M3, mabye even and E36. Smaller, lighter, more agile. Somewhat usable back seat. A real trunk. Performance (hopefully). Hopefully more sports car than sports coupe. Things I like about the M4: Looks/design/style. S55 engine. Luxury/comfort features. Real trunk. Performance (of course). For me, in the end, I just with the M2 would be a smaller, lighter M4. I don't need a back seat, although it's nice to have one that can fit something bigger than a 5 yr old child. But I do need a trunk. Sounds crazy, but this is the main reason I won't consider the 911. I think once I get used to the 'upscale' M4, I won't want to give it up; I'll just want both cars. I also think the M3/M4 is BMW's crown jewel, and they won't make an M2 that will best it. The situation will probably be like E92M3 and 1M. |

Traded the tune 1M for a new M3. Just got it today. I think that M4 will be better if you are going to use the car every day and on the big track.
The M2 will be bettre on a small track and will be not than good in daily driving. BTW both car are very good, but I prefer the bigger size and 4 doors to use the car all around!

My next car will likely be an M2. I don't like spending $20k - $30k for a new car that is almost exactly the same as the one I trade. This is what will happen if I trade my F80 in my normal trade cycle of about four years. Furthermore whipping around in my mom's Peugeot 206 GTI here in Europe prior to picking up my F80 made me realize how much I like a small simple, nimble car. If you don't need the size of the M4 I'd say go with the M2, smaller is better here! I had hopes for a smaller Porsche 4-door but it seem to be a pipe dream. Apparently VW need to milk Porsche on profit and the Macan investment need a couple of years to pay off before they get Porsche more new car budget.

Thing is, there will always be a newer and better car out there. Maybe I'll get a 2nd year M2 at lease-end but check out all these cars coming out in the next couple of years, who knows what the future might hold:
- Rx7 - Supra - RS5 - C63 - Cayman GT4 - S2000 - GTR
