Intake cam gear
I've been having vanos issues on and off for a few years. I would get the CC-ID 29 code, hook up my Bav Tech Tool and find a 2A82 Inlet-Vanos variable cam control test, error not currently present, etc. Two years ago the Dealer replaced both vanos solenoids under CPO.
Within the past month, I was getting the same error code again. My Independent repair guy swapped the intake one with the exhaust one to see if the error would follow the solenoid. It didn't! Got the same intake error again along with yellow half engine light. Turn car off the restart and all is fine. The Independent now tells me I need an intake cam gear and that'll fix the problem. $1500 includes part and 10 hours labor. Does this sound reasonable? Thanks. |

I am having same issues right now, 75k miles. Ordered 2 VVT solenoids to see if it will go away which i dont think it will, and i also blame the cam ledges. if its true ill probably get rid of this car before i do that.

Swap intake to exhaust and exhaust to intake. If the code stays same, its likely to be cam ledges

did the check valves, they looked clean, still get the CEL, now i noticed that it would only throw cel when the car is fully warmed up, and then when you check vanos intake and exhaust values and compare actual to dme required, you will notice that either intake or exhaust will eventually fall below the thresh hold and CEL would come up. Now it also only comes up when the car is in drive but in standing position like at the red light, as soon as the values start to drop we disengaged the AT to neutral, and values came back up. How does a vanos relates to the load in the engine. I had my torque distributer worked on, and after that issue start to come up.
