Differential rebuild cost?
My diff is on it's way out. I am under warranty but considering cancelling this after the dealership has told me they cannot fault the differential. So I have had enough with the dealer network and I am thinking of putting £1000-2000 away a year for repairs. I used to do this for my Audi S3 and ended up slightly richer as I never really had to use my emergency budget.
I am based in/around London at the moment but willing to travel up to 2 hours if it is right the place/person for the job. I used the search button and found one thread about a rebuild but that was up North if I remember. So to rebuild or replace? Anyone know costs? Any recommendations? 325i - Auto - 2007 |

Are they sure its the diff, rebuild from bmw is around the £1400 according to realoem and not new, unless its run out of oil its rare for them to go wrong and then maybe just one bearing that has gone, I though the diff had gone on my 330d but it turned out to be a rear wheel bearing,

Yes we are sure it is the diff. Identified by a BMW specialist I know as well as a my local indy friend. My local guy is away so cannot reach him for a quote.

Unless you know a transmission specialist who can re-build, then I suspect replacement is your only option, since BMW don't supply any spare parts for the internals of thier diffs, only complete units.
Sadly BMW diff failures are becoming less rare due to changes to the internals - including the use of plastics (!) and smaller internal capacity (i.e. less lubricant).

Why not Quaife when your at it?
If you brake that, Quaife will build you a new one for free

Thanks. I will ask around to try and find a trans specialist. Rebuild kits are available online. Otherwise I am thinking of parting with the car next year and going F10. So don't see the point of the Q LSD on this car.
