Can Parking Assistant be Coded On?

I saw someone's order form on here and wondered if the 5DP parking assistant option can be coded, if you have all the cameras?

Is there any other hardware, switches required? Anyone have any insights? Perhaps it needs an FSC code?

From the technical standpoint, likely it can be coded but need more than just cameras. Most critical is the proximity sensors on the bumpers and sides of the car that is also needed. Its those little circles you find especially just under the front side view cameras as an example. Cameras alone do not have the ability to sense the distance the car is to objects. I would also imagine there might be other systems and/or possible coding/parts needed - such as something that regulates how must throttle/brake to apply.

TLL - Yes it can be coded but will be incomplete without other critical systems/parts.

Thanks. I have front and back parking distance control, plus the full camera package. I just am not sure how the system is activated so wasn't sure if there was any additional hardware required. I was thinking more along the lines of extra sensors or an initiation switch. I didn't think of a controller for the throttle/brake I do have DCT though which should make it easier.

Still too much uncertainty for me to give it a go

Just watched a video on YouTube about how this works. The car basically only controls the steering, you have to provide manual throttle and brake input, so it is unlikely there is any required hardware there. That may suggest that there are extra motors required to drive the steering input however, but then again with the F80's electronic steering, this equipment could be accessed by the parking assist too, just needing software input.

I may try and add it tonight and see if it is recognized. I am not sure which ECUs I will need to VO code though, and I am not too keen on adding back in all my prior coding on a hunch.

Someone must have tried this...?

Just taking a guess, but looking at the electrical diagram from the 7 series, it would appear both the side cameras (by the wheels) and the side camera control units would also be needed.

I have the side cameras, I believe, as part of whatever package they come with, but I think the sensors for parking assist might be slightly different and not necessarily purely optically based...

Can't remember where I heard or read that though...

You have different side cameras, and the ultrasonic sensors are different.

Don't really need it round here anyway. It's not like there is a shortage of parking. And being British, parallel parking is in our blood. We are born able to do it...

This cannot be done as two additional sensors in the front bumpers are needed.
