would you travel with your 335 with no spare tire

Hey Guys

I was wondering would you travel long distances with your 335 with no spare ? I mean I know the cars come with RF tires but once they are flat your SOL I have been there. I'm just afraid of hitting a pot hole or bump and the tire gives out ( its happened to me and I have seen it happen to other BMWs). With the 19s on the car we are at higher risk of that happening.

Some will say pick up a spare tire kit but then it will take up all the trunk space in my E93

What do u guys do? It could get quite expensive if you get a flat in or close to a small town not a major city ( tire availability etc)

I actually got rid of rfts and have no spare. Last Thanksgiving I made a 1200 mile trip...I did have small air compressor in the trunk and something like fix-a-flat.

Yep. All the time. Get AAA if you are particularly worried.

I do every day, and I've paid for it twice- but once only in some time inconveniences.... oh and one time when I rode on a flat 19 inch tire in front for 6 miles at a very low speed to get home because BMW assist was being a jackass and told me some crazy phenomenal time like three hours for a tow truck on a weeknight

Seriously though, you have 3 options when you have a convertible, and most folks on here will agree on this list for pretty much any other E9x:

1) I have a flat tire repair kit with a air compressor in the trunk
2) Keep your BMW assist roadside service or your car insurance company roadside assistance subscription up-to-date
2) Run run flats

Conti Comfort kit ($79 from tire rack) and AAA membership should give you the peace of mind. When was the last time you had a flat tire?

Learned a pricy lesson on a 200 mile trip. Have 19s, no spare and rear tire shredded, not sure how. No one local had my tire size, they had to order, which didn't get in until the next day. Had to stay overnight at a hotel and pay almost 200 bucks for the tire.

Needless to say, if I travel more than 100 miles from home, I throw a spare in the trunk.

As far as when is the last time I got a flat, actually in the fall. I owned the car for a bout a year and its low. The dealer told me it has sport suspension, however when I chacked why I have a falt it was due to uneven wear due to lowering springs with no camber/caster plates to align the car( will get that fixed soon since the fronts have bad toe wear also)

At least you guys in the US have options for tires ..in Canada the tires for the car RF or non RFs are over 700 plus our Tax.

Agreed on getting CAA or whatever it is a must. I will check into getting a spare or something for sure

I have a set of tires if I am local in the city but its if I travel ...

Is your car equipped with Tire Pressure Monitoring System?

I traveled 2000 kms this past xmas through the mountains and although it was in the back of my mind I had no issues, I usally have a small bottle jack, good quality plug kit, small air compressor, breaker bar and lug socket plus a can of fix a flat, it all fits neatly in your trunk in the are where you would normally find a spare LOL. Total cost was about $50-$60 and keeps you from being stranded in the middle of nowhere or on the side of a very busy highway! I would highly recommend it to everyone.

If the potential of leaving town and getting a flat tire is so worrisome I suggest you take the bus. Sure you can throw a spare in the back seat but know you have to start worrying about a mechanical failure and the list goes on and on. BTW, this is the 21st century and on the road problems can be remedied rather quickly.

I have a 5 hour weekly commute to work. I carry a jack, 3 foot breaker bar with 17mm socket, spare, a small air compressor and a plug kit.

I did this on a 2600 mile round-trip the previous (not this last) Christmas-New Year's.
Also got Allstate Motor Club.

Ended up with a double-flat tire (and bent wheels) on the George Washington Bridge with a final 50 miles to go on my 2600 mile trip. Go figure.

Not realy .. If you have a flat at 12 am in the boonies with no spare your SOL...with any other car it is a 20 min delay

Thanks for the Bus advice , I have a caddy for a second car but I would like to take the 335 on the road this summer.. I'm not too worried about mechanical issues cause shit happens and I can prolly deal with most issues .. the reason I ask about the flat tire cause our cars don't have a spare tire and wanted to know other peoples thoughts and back up plans..

I do multiple Chicago - Toronto road trips all the time. About 500mi. No spare, no run flats. That's what CAA/AAA is for, lol.

Interesting. I see that they also offer a BMW jack kit also:

http://www.bimmerzone.com/product/BIM-SST-JACK.html

Can anybody here speak to the quality of the spare tire or jack?
