DCI, worth it?

Hi Guys,
from those of you who have fitted DCI, do you think it has been worth it?

Ileft mine stock in case any work on the car was needed but now I have down pipes that can't be easily removed and increase the sound quite a bit there's probably no reason not to change.

How bad is heat soak? These things are located right in the engine bay.

Thanks

There's some very interesting reading on the intake kit from Trueform Technologies here http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1081011

Whether you'll be able to get your hands on one is another matter and if it fits RHD cars? Pricey but for the workmanship and materials used it seems worth it.

^^ That's not a dci. That's a whole new ball game costing 600+ dollars.
The dci research I have seen shows negligible improvements.

Frankly for performance, I'd say the gains are negligible if any. For sound and look, it's rather nice.

I read through the comparisons and before/after dynos in detail before I bought mine and frankly, it's a lot of money for not a lot of performance but I was after the sound and the look in the engine bay so it was worth it.

Yeh I know mate and it's $1500 , I'd still rather spend on that rather than wasting money on DCIs. If a second hand set came up at a decent price I'd give them a go but I've had them before on other cars and they always end up in a cupboard somewhere.

I've still got mine in a box I was never 100% sure whether they are as good as the could/should be if you look at the design I was always of the opinion that they'd be a possible loss of power due to heat soak from the engine bay as the set up doesn't allow IMO at least a decent flow of cold air I was never comfortable with how they sat in the engine bay compared with some other designs.

For now I've git a K&N spec panel in the standard air box, I could of course be wrong hence when my impending RR session comes along to tweak the map I've got comes along I might take them with me just to see if it's possible to see what difference they can actually make with my own eyes(subject to time and RR operators willingness of course)

I must admit i have them and agree with AndyN. I'm sure i read that standing still the dci will perform better, but when moving you get a ram effect with the standard box....lets not mention heat sink. It would be interesting to see steve's results

DCIs are like $100 plus shipping so not the end of the Earth really in terms of cost.

As for performance, well yes there are arguments for both sides tbh. I think when on the move there is cold air coming into them from the oe snorkel but yes there is going to be the heat soak from the rest of the engine.

I like the sound and look tbh and let's be honest even going with an upgraded panel filter in the airbox has been argumented against.

Thanks. For now I've decide on a new stock paper filter in standard air box and to change them often. The K&N filter sparked my interest but even on that people are divided on using one of those vs just swapping paper filters more often.
